Threshold Training with Boots
When doing threshold training, I don't talk much to the dog. Using words like look at me or wait doesn't allow the dog to problem solve the situation. I want my dogs to work, touse their brains so that each time they want something they remember
"Oh! I know what I need to do to get what I want!"
Problem solving and scaffolding is where I start my dogs after we've formed the relationship. Boots is a very fear reactive dog, so we've spent these first few days just hand feeding and rewarding for any interactions she gave to me. Now she'll willingly follow me, but any sudden movement, noise, or change scares her. She has a long way to go but we will get there!

Russet is coming along great with his training. We are focusing on settling though as his teenage puppy brain gets bored very quickly. Today we met up with a friend who just got their new service dog prospect and we worked on staying in a down while the puppy played and got used to seeing him. Outings like these may look boring because they aren't flashy and have lots of movement but they are essential to a service dogs success just as much as any other outing!๐ฅฐ
