Ace's Pace

Ace's Pace Offering real solutions to the most common challenges that pet parents face

Ace's Pace was born out of the love for a rambunctious, goofy German Shepard/Husky mix with big feelings who taught me how to truly listen to the dogs in my life and to take things at their pace. Ace taught me not only what it feels like to be a reactive dog parent but how to foster a relationship that accommodates to both the needs of the people and the dogs. At Ace's Pace, our aim is to provide

real solutions to the most common challenges that pet parents face. Through expert behavioral coaching and applying kind, approachable, and humane principles, we are here to help you alleviate all of that unwanted stress that can come with raising a dog. All services focus on providing quality knowledge on pet communication, socialization and science-based behavioral theory. No matter what service you book with us, you’re guaranteed to learn everything there is to know about what it means to share your life with a dog.

Edward (Eddie) proudly showing off his platforming skills!

Eddie gets nervous and anxious in new environments and is dog reactive but with his new found love for platforming, he’s been able to manage his big feelings! Platforming is Eddie’s new favorite skill and is his version of Superman posing before a big speech.

When a dog feels good in their body, they feel better in the world around them and platforming is one of the skills that helps dogs find their confidence. Learning to platform improves body awareness while building a structured and predictable learning environment. It helps dogs focus on a positive task while gradually introducing them to the world in a safe and structured way making it a great go to skill for particularly anxious, shy, and reactive dogs.

Once a year, we take Ace to go play in the snow. ❄️

Last year (pre-dog attack) we rented a cabin with lots of land, horses, and a couple of other dogs that he got to play with. He also learned how to use their doggy door because he didn’t want the play to stop. He made friends with the horses and then tried herding them when they got too excited for his liking. This trip was the trip that made us decide this would be a yearly tradition. He loves playing in the snow and experiencing farm life so much we wanted to give him opportunities to express that side of himself.

This year (post dog attack), our trip looked very different. We got a different airbnb with less land for him to run around on with no dogs or horses. We could instantly see how different of a dog he was compared to last year. He had a harder time with the trip and adjusting to a new place which really showed in his diarrhea and alertness to the environment. He was extra sensitive to me and my movements the first day or so but once we hit the snow, it was like nothing had changed. He romped around, bunny hopped, dug, licked and chomped on the snow.

Our trip this year was different. Not worse, limited, or lesser than before Ace struggled with reactivity. Just different. Living with a reactive dog is all about finding ways to let them be a dog in a safe way that helps them build confidence in themselves and the world around them. I get a lot of clients with reactive dogs saying they just want to be able to experience the world with their dog and to you I say, do it! Prepare for it, train for it, set your dog up for success, take baby steps, and do it. If you need help along the way or don’t know where to start, reach out and I’ll be there to support you the whole way.

The different sides of Ace ☺️

The sensitive side 🥺
The guy with big feelings that whines when people hand something to his people through the drive thru window. The one that runs home when a big dog barks at him. That paws for help when he hears noises that makes him nervous. The boy that just has a hard time with change.

The very dog side 🐕
The little boy that loves his sniffy walks, has high prey drive with squirrels & rates/mice, loves herding ducks, geese, and horses, and will lick and eat horse p**p if given the chance.

The silly side 😋
The Ace that bunny hops in the snow, that talks at you with his roos when you come home or to invite play. The boy that lays butt up, head down so that you can give him butt scritches. The one that always has to lay on pillows even if he can’t fit.

It’s not always easy living with a sensitive boy with big feelings about the world. Sometimes these feelings end up being directed towards me, his mom but without that very important part of Ace, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to learn and grow our relationship. Ace has made me a better dog mom, trainer, behavior consultant. He’s taught me not only the dog’s experience but given me real life experiences with the emotional human side as well. 🥰
