Heading out on the trails with your furry friend?

Here are some top tips to make sure both you and your dog have a safe and fun adventure:

Know the Trail Rules: Always check if the trail is dog-friendly and if leashes are required. Respect local wildlife and fellow hikers.

Pack the Essentials: Bring water, a collapsible bowl, doggie waste bags, a first-aid kit, and some treats for energy.

Keep Your Dog Leashed: This helps protect wildlife and ensures your dog doesn’t get lost or injured. Even well-behaved dogs can get excited and chase after something.

Watch for Signs of Fatigue: Know your dog's limits. If they seem tired, take a break or cut the hike short.

Stay Hydrated: Dogs can overheat quickly, so offer water frequently. Look out for signs of overheating, like excessive panting.

Happy trails! 🐾

Can Cats and Dogs Eat Ice Cream? 🐾

As much as we love to treat our furry friends to all kinds of goodies, it's important to know what's safe for them. When it comes to ice cream, here's what you need to know:

Dogs: While a small amount of plain vanilla ice cream is generally safe, many dogs are lactose intolerant, which can lead to tummy troubles. Stick to dog-friendly ice cream or frozen treats made specifically for them!

Cats: Cats are also often lactose intolerant. Regular ice cream isn't a good idea for them. There are special cat-friendly frozen treats you can offer instead.

Always consult your vet before introducing new treats to your pet's diet.

Keep Those Paws Protected This Summer! 🐾

Just like us, our dogs can suffer from burns and discomfort if their paws aren't protected. Booties are a great way to ensure your pet can enjoy their walks without any worries.

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a serious threat to our beloved cats. It can weaken their immune system, making them vulnerable to other infections. But there are ways to keep your furry friend safe!

Here’s how to protect your cat:

Vaccination: Ensure your cat is vaccinated against FeLV. Consult your vet for the right vaccination schedule.

Regular Check-ups: Routine vet visits help catch any health issues early.

Keep Indoors: Indoor cats have a lower risk of contracting FeLV. If your cat goes outside, supervise them or consider a secure outdoor enclosure.

Test New Cats: If you're introducing a new cat to your home, have them tested for FeLV first.

Healthy Diet: A balanced diet boosts your cat’s immune system.

Stay informed and proactive. Together, we can keep our feline family healthy and happy! 🐾

Rattlesnakes can be a serious threat to your dog during outdoor adventures. To help keep your dog safe, we want to inform you about a valuable class being offered at a local animal hospital.

Rattlesnake Aversion Training will be held at Bayside Animal Hospital, led by the experts from Snakeout. This training is crucial for protecting your dog in areas where rattlesnake encounters are possible. By teaching dogs to avoid these dangerous reptiles, you can greatly reduce the risk of bites.

The cost is $135 per pet, and spots are limited, only 12 remain! Reserve your spot soon to ensure your pup's safety.

For any questions, contact Bayside Animal Hospital at (916) 791-8387.

As we fire up the grills this BBQ season, let's remember that some of our favorite foods can be harmful to our furry friends.

Here are some BBQ items to keep away from pets:

Bones - Cooked bones can splinter and cause choking or digestive issues.

Corn on the Cob - Hard to digest and can cause blockages.

Onions & Garlic - Toxic to dogs and cats; can cause anemia.

Fat Trimmings & Greasy Foods - Can lead to pancreatitis.

Alcohol - Even small amounts can be poisonous.

Chocolate Desserts - Toxic to dogs, especially dark chocolate.

Grapes & Raisins - Can cause kidney failure.

Keep your pets safe by offering them pet-friendly treats instead. Let's enjoy a safe and happy BBQ season for everyone!
