πŸ— Miss Chicken! πŸ—

As the temperature creeped up, we took advantage of the air conditioning indoors and did some nail trims! Chicken did her first longer duration place stay while everyone got their turns. Little baby steps, but she's learning to settle and stay put until it's time to go play again!

🐾🀍 Luna 🀍🐾

Luna has a habit of sliding behind me and coming up on my right side when we turn right. This is common for dogs, more common for adolescent pups who don't know where their body is.

Today we set up an x pen to help me teach her to seek out the left side when I turn right! The barrier helps guide her to the correct answer.

You can see by the end I change the pen shape and she still gets it right. These little pieces are what keeps training together! Take a piece you struggle with, get creative and teach them what you're looking for.

πŸŒŸβ•THIS MAY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT VIDEO I EVER POSTβ•πŸŒŸ

I have talked frequently with many of you about the importance of having some focus when you come out of the car (or house, or wherever you're exiting) at the beginning of your walk. IT IS CRITICAL!

This video shows me walking Cat through the process. I think it will help everyone get a sense of what I'm looking for as far as engagement.

🌟 Focus
🌟 Calm body language
🌟 Solid sit position
🌟 Tuning in the ears

Notice there is not a LOT of verbal except marking and rewarding. The leash is doing the work to keep the dog in the position.

Also a good breakdown of why he's breaking his sit. Fixing that helped him realize he was supposed to be tuning in toward the end.

This process can take 30 seconds, 5 minutes or could be your ENTIRE training session if you never get a calm, engaged dog.

DO IT.

DO IT AGAIN.

DO IT EVERY TIME YOU START YOUR SESSION!!!!

Love you all. Please do this πŸ–€

🐾 The Whole Crew!! 🐾

The crew is all together in sync and our morning sessions are getting more eventful!! It is awesome to have so many alumni pups around to make these mornings productive, while keeping things fun and moving.

πŸŒ… I also don't own the rights to any of the music... I just enjoy my Pandora stations while training πŸ˜†

🐾🀎 Nacho and Woody 🀎🐾

Nacho and Woody did their group session while Sparkle and I worked on some agility stuff! This is the first step in distractions with e-collar stim for them. They can see me move, hear me give feedback to the other dog and still have to process the information isn't for them and they're still doing things!

They're both progressing well!! Keep it up kids!!

🐾🀎 Jameson!! 🀍🐾

Our goal today with Jameson, along with socialization in a safe, clean environment for a puppy, was some focus on distracting situations.

I started with him and some luring exercises in this video to get him working on some basics, then handed him over to Cat to continue working while I helped a potential client through some quick handling tips. We kept it short and sweet, and right after allowed him some freedom to explore again and re-claim his beloved tug!!

Good work Jameson!!

🀫 SUPER SECRET PROJECT!! 🀫

It's complete! Well it will be when the pool fills. It may not be the largest pool on the planet, but everyone knows summer in Sacramento hits like a Mack truck.

This year has been the year of watching my visions come to life. I have worked SO freaking hard to make a safe, fun and functional place for dogs. It was my dream. It is my passion. I LOVE what I do to the no end.

With the help of people I love and could NOT have done it without. My dog room and pool area are complete... (For now)

Thank you Dad(John), and anyone else who lent a hand for all your help!! Couldn't have done it without you.

🧰 Field trip to !! πŸ‘©β€πŸ”§

Guess what humans have to do sometimes? Errands! Home Depot is of course one of the more well known places to take your pup. It however comes with A LOT more environmental stimuli than lots of other places, and the stimulus can be distracting or downright scary.

Ruby and I worked on her place command using a doormat while the nice workers measured out some turf for the super secret summer project I'm working on.

πŸ”¨ She nailed it! πŸ”¨ Toward the end a cart snuck up on her from behind and was alarming. So we set her up again and practiced that the cart won't eat you. Other than that she watched and became familiar with the hustle and bustle of a day in HD.

Good job Miss Rubes!!

πŸΎπŸ€πŸΎπŸ€ŽπŸΎπŸ–€πŸΎ

04/04/2022

Ruby supervised my w**d pulling and worked on waiting on place nicely while Door Dash dropped off my groceries. Then we heeled nicely to the gate and held a down while I got them!

It's the little things in daily life! Dogs get structured play time, group sessions and one-on-one sessions like these daily. They help me identify strengths and weaknesses, as well as give them practice for day-to-day life when they return home!

🐾🀍 Ruby 🀍🐾

Ruby and I did our first 'lesson' this morning on place. Less a lesson and more a passive exercise on a few foundational skills; luring, spatial pressure and our future marker words.

Short version: get on bed &/or stay there for a bit = food.

Easy peasy!

Excited to see this smart girls progress in the next few weeks.

πŸŽ‰πŸ₯‡EXCITING NEWS!!! πŸ₯‡πŸŽ‰

Miss Sparkle Dog and I earned our Barn Hunt Master title this weekend!! πŸ₯°

It has been SO much fun to work alongside her and grow together. She is quite dedicated and is getting more and more persistent every trial.

I want to explain a couple things from the video;

I generally trust her judgement with rats. If it is one, she's on it like glue(rats #1-3here). I question her twice. The first time, I had noticed earlier she was sniffing a bale of hay and was very interested in it, passed the pile that could have been a tube without even a glance. So I was trying to move her away from that smell. Turns out, she let me know I really needed to look there.

The second time I'm less dedicated to it and more second guessing myself, so I very calmly ask her to leave it, which she'll usually do if she's just frustrated and is giving a false alert. She says, 'No mom, you're dumb, this IS a πŸ€!'. She's right. πŸ™‚πŸΎ

It's not how we train. It's not that I don't trust her. It's a mind game on both ends of the (invisible) leash. With practice and growth comes the ability to read and question at times.

She's the best girl! She gets all the snacks and all the pets.

Late post, but I'm burning the midnight oil this evening!

Look who came back for a skills Pup-Date and to check in with his best friend ! It's Indigo!

Indigo has had an amazing training journey and his list of successes just keeps growing. Stay tuned to get the low down on how we're going to expand on his skills and keep him moving forward.

Bruce headed home yesterday. He is already missed, but I am SO beyond happy with his progress during his stay.

He learned how to take input reliably. I saw him begin to learn patterns within my pack that he will need to take home. I have two very different dogs. Sparkle is aloof and only plays with a few friends. Zoya is (so far) just a party with friends.

If there's one thing Bruce LOVED it was a party. Part of his issues in the home were knowing when this party is acceptable. We worked on the difference. How to not take things personally or be so over aroused when he needed some focus.

His transition back home will rely on those skills. His people were studious and attentive, they will no doubt keep things clear and fair within the home to work toward more harmony.

Be your best self Bruce! πŸ€—
