VCA Animal Hospitals is proud to support VCA Charities, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in their disaster relief efforts. Every dollar helps local animal welfare organizations shelter, transport and care for pets through grants that fund veterinary care, medication, food, and supplies.

Canine influenza, or “dog flu,” is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can be passed from dog to dog. It typically starts with a cough and can be mistaken for the more common and well-known Bordetella. In some cases, canine influenza can progress to pneumonia.

However, pets often swallow the seeds or eat the rind, and both can block the GI tract. To avoid GI blockages, cut the melon from the rind and remove the seeds before sharing this classic summer treat.
