Marsha
Life at the shelter is ruff, and poor Marsha has been with us SO long. Can we come together to find this amazing dog the life and family she's been dreaming of? Marsha has done well around other dogs and kids, and she loves lounging in the sun, meeting people, fetch and cuddling. At six years old, she's at that perfect age of being active yet mellow.
Dog is over the moon to be reunited with owner
When Jackie needed a hand, our Homeless Outreach and Assistance Program was there to help by finding a foster home for Juicy. Even though Juicy had a great time with her foster family (including a thrilling trip to the snow), she was even more excited to be reunited with Jackie. In 2024 our HOAP team assisted 747 unhoused owners and provided care to 1,325 pets, while facilitating spay/neuter surgeries for 253 of those animals.
Doggie Day Out
Give a shelter dog the time of their life by taking them on an outing! Our Doggie Day Out program is back by popular demand – now you can “check out” a dog for the day for walks, runs, or a date at your favorite pet-friendly restaurant or brewery! Not only is this great for the dogs’ mental health, but it gives us valuable information about their personality, shows them to potential adopters, and is a great photo opportunity to add to their profile. All our animals have the same New Year’s resolution – to get adopted! Pearl is one of our volunteer’s favorite dogs because she’s so cuddly, playful, and smart. She’ll nudge for pets, army crawl towards squirrels, and run zoomies around you because she thinks you’re that great! She’ll surely keep her future family entertained for years, and is hoping to find that family very soon. We think she’s 3-5 years old, and has done well around most other dogs although a proper introduction at home is always required. We haven't observed yet observed her around cats. She hopes to meet you soon!
Free adoptions – adopters urgently needed! We want this season to be full of joy for pets and people alike, so we’re waiving all adoption fees through December 31st to make the dream of an empty shelter a reality. If you can’t adopt, helping get the word out makes all the difference too.
Of all our dogs, Marty might be having the hardest time finding a home. He’s 10 years old, and has a number of health concerns including a skin infection that could take months to resolve, along with dental disease and an ear infection we’re currently treating. That’s why we’re hoping you can help – we’re sure there is a senior dog lover out there who can give Marty the golden years he so greatly deserves. Can you help us find them? He’s sweet and laid back, but still quite energetic and a lover of a good walk. He’s also done well with other dogs.
Daisy got the day of her dreams when a volunteer took her out of the shelter an on an amazing adventure! See her getting spoiled and help her find a home by sharing her video! This one year old is incredibly sweet, has done well around other dogs, and will make some lucky family very, very happy.
It happened again - our officers responded to the second dog hoarding situation in less than a month. This time we took in fifteen chihuahuas, and many of them still need homes. If you know someone who has been wanting a small dog, encourage them to meet these pups. We'd love to see them get out of the shelter soon and start their new lives in safe and happy homes!

Free adoptions to save lives
Crisis on Front Street – Free dog adoptions to make room! We just took in 30 dogs from a hoarding situation, and don’t have a single kennel left. Adopters are greatly needed right now. Dog adoption fees will be waived through 9/15…if you can’t adopt, please help get the word out ❤
Chickens and Roosters
Did you know that Front Street has more than just dogs and cats? That's right, we aren't a one-chick pony!
Staff is working around the cluck, dancing chick to chick to rooster up some excitement hoping one of these birds will beak your interest.
As eggs-perts in the field, we want to remind you the of the many hen-ifits of adopting a rooster or chicken into your home. Roosters and chickens can offer pest control, fertilizer for your garden, fresh morning eggs, protection against predators, pet companionship, and more!
Hatch a plan today to come chick them out and adopt one of these im-peck-able birds!
**Roosters are not available for adoption to City of Sacramento residents due to the city code**
