SHA Elects New Board Members

Thank you to all those who joined us for the SHA Oktoberfest Dinner Meeting.

At the September Dinner Meeting, the SHA Nominating Committee presented the Membership with their recommendations for the three 2025-27 positions on the Board of Directors.

Those nominees were Anne Anderson, Carol Gale and Georgeann Everett. All were accepted by the membership to proceed to the October election process.

Ballots were distributed to the SHA members present, and the votes were counted by two youth members of 4H groups representing Wilton and Green Acres groups as overseen by an Adult 4H Leader.

This notice attests that the nominees have been verified and will proceed according the bylaws to be sworn in this December.

Congratulations to our three new and continuing Board Members.

The Columbia Equestrian Christmas Parade will be upon us soon. We look forward to this yearly event and hope you do too. Last year we not only had a great showing of parade entries but also had wonderful support from spectators.

Thank You SHA Family and Friends ! 40 fine folks enjoyed SHA Oktoberfest 2024 with a Bratwurst Buffet this evening ! Our October Membership Meeting is also our annual election. Thank you to our partners with Sacramento 4-H Club for counting our ballots and certifying our results. Congratulations to our three newly elected Directors - Anne Anderson, Carol Gale and Georgeann Everett ! Thank you Carol Gale, Sharon Wright, Sandy Koster and Sondra Betancourt and gang for a tasty dinner and thank you Alessia Bertilacchi-Green and Ellen Garavatti for the wonderful bar experience !

“Mares aren’t always well liked and for the same reasons strong women aren’t.

Opinionated? Those opinions are not without good cause and maybe you can't figure them out or maybe you just don’t like her opinion of you. Change it and she will always be on your side.

Stubborn? She just won’t let you bulldoze her. Treat her with respect and her resilience will be an asset to you.

Difficult? You just can’t handle her. You don’t have what it takes.

Stick with geldings then, and leave the mare for someone who understands her and appreciates the same qualities society has subtlety taught you not to like.

Here’s to mares, to strong women, and to those who CAN and DO appreciate them!”

Caution - Sacramento County Rabies Warning

A Sacramento Zoo visitor was bitten by a skunk on Oct. 15, 2024. The skunk was behaving aggressively. Sacramento Zoo officials captured and euthanized three skunks within the area after the incident and submitted them to the Sacramento County Public Health Laboratory for rabies testing. On Oct. 17, 2024, confirmation was received that two of the three skunks tested positive for rabies.

Sacramento Zoo officials captured and euthanized a fourth skunk on Oct. 17, 2024. That skunk will be sent for rabies testing.
