Those are her "adopt me" eyes
a little off center, a little wild, but so sweet and beautiful 😍 🥰

✨️She is going to be ready for adoption soon!
She is about 7 months old, sterilized, healthy blood work, and treated for ticks, fleas, parasites and worms.

🏡For her safety and the safety of the wildlife around her forever home, we are searching for a home where she will be kept indoors or indoors with access to a catery/catio (entire catio sets can be bought on amazon for under $300!).
🇺🇸🇲🇽She will be looking for a home in the U.S or Mexico, we take care of paperwork and transportation ✨️ 🇨🇦Also available for adoption in Canada if you're visiting and can take her back with you ✨️

🍎Watch the ultimate betrayal of slipping Luna an apple slice. the look of betrayal after she spits it out 🦄

🍏Luna has never liked apples, but she's also very picky with EVERYTHING at first, and ive gotten her to like treats she originally turned her nose at by slipping them in between carrots, and shes learned she really likes one thing that way lol,
so every once in a while, I check to make sure she hasn't grown to like apples, but she's made it so very clear this time, and it will be the last time I try 😅

🥕as always, we monitor the amount of treats and sugar she gets to stay healthy

I told her to smile for an adoption picture! 😸

✨️She is going to be ready for adoption soon!
She is about 7 months old, sterilized, healthy blood work, and treated for ticks, fleas, parasites and worms.

🐈She is adjusting fairly quickly, quicker than her brother who she was rescued with, though they don't seem bonded. I can tell she's going to have a big and sassy personality, but still sweet 😻
last night she slept on the bed curled at my feet, she does enjoy being pet around her head and neck area, but does not like her lower half touched, and let's you know. She's super playful, chasing toys around and easily jumping up and around on everything 🤍
we are still getting to know her as she decompresses, we will have more to write on her personality ✨️
🏡For her safety and the safety of the wildlife around her forever home, we are searching for a home where she will be kept indoors or indoors with access to a catery/catio (entire catio sets can be bought on amazon for under $300!).

🐑It took about 2 weeks, but the results of the sheeps nasal swabs came back. It's really only Nube and Cúmulo still with symptoms, even after 8 days of antibiotics, and turns out it's because the bacteria causing the illness is extremely antibiotic resistant, and we need a very strong antibiotic to kick it.
🤍But at least now we know for sure what it is and we know we have the right medication 🙏🏼
Another week of daily IM injections and monitoring them closely for any signs of side effects, but I'll feel so much better when they're totally better, but I'm glad we know we are on the right track, I'm glad I was able to get our vet to our sanctuary so quickly, especially with how long the labs took to process, treating promptly is important.

✨️I was only able to call the vet out because I have such amazing support from you guys! I can have all the best intentions and strongest work ethic and loyalty to the animals, but without support, it would mean nothing, so thank you for giving these animals their best lives with me 🙏🏼

This week's medication can only be found in 2ml vials, they need over 2ml per injection, so I have to buy around 30 vials, im expecting to spend another $40ish one their meds, which we have spent about $200 total already (x4 animals and only finding smaller bottles, meds get expensive).
if you're able to, please consider donating towards their care, every dollar helps!

Busy day at the vets yesterday!

🐈‍⬛We had Amentats standing appointment scheduled to sedate and inject her ulcers to treat her Leishmania, but we also have to check her blood every couple months to make sure her body is handling the treatment, which we did today

🐶Tink has had an ongoing fungus issue with her paw since rescuing her basically, we went today to get a new treatment plan as the old one isn't working.

🐔 Amber needed a new implant to stop daily egg laying, which is unnatural for chickens as 100 years ago they would lay about 1 egg a month, they were selectively bred to lay daily which causes health issues. Implants last 6 months and cost between $150 and $200 depending on where I can buy them.

🐈 The new girl kitten was previously sterilized, we had her SNAP test and her blood drawn and vaccines given and treatment for fleas, ticks and Parasites.
She did not do well at the vet so we had to sedate her to treat her. Her SNAP was negative 🎉

🐈‍⬛ The new boy kitten was sterilized today, as well as SNAP test and his blood drawn and vaccines given and treatment for fleas, ticks and parasites. His SNAP was negative 🎉

The total for today, including the implant, was $ 450
If you'd like to help sponsor health care of any of our animals, we are so grateful for every dollar donated, it makes a big difference in allowing us to help those who come our way 🙏🏼

✨️These two siblings arrived last night ✨️
Around 3 weeks ago, a woman who was visiting the area contacted me asking to borrow my crate, carrier and trap to sterilize and release two kittens in her neighborhood.
if you're willing to work to help animals, I'm willing to help you, so I loaded up my car and brought everything she would need.

🐈The sister (on the left) was easy to catch without a crate, however, she needs to finish her antibiotics before release and the woman has to fly out.
🐈‍⬛The brother is more scared, and unfortunately, we found out (video evidence) that my trap wasn't triggering (I'd tested it, but he didn't trigger it), she wasn't able to catch him in time to sterilize.
I had agreed to take the sister to finish her antibiotics, but when they were leaving last night, he showed up and walked in the trap, so she was able to close it and grab him.

🐈‍⬛So today he will go for sterilization (low cost/rescue discount will be $35), and they will both go for SNAP tests, blood tests, vaccines, and treatment for fleas, ticks and parasites (also for a rescue price)
✨️Will I release them when they're both recovered from their sterilizations? I'm going to say no.
Trap, sterilize and release is extremely important work that is so necessary to control the stray cat population, I have so much respect for those doing that work, but I don't think I have it in me to care for them for a week and send them back out into the dangerous world.

🏡 So, when they're healthy, they will be looking for a forever home! my goal in 2026 has been to add a cattery and cat adoption program, so we are just a little ahead of schedule, as we tend to be.

🤍if you'd like to sponsor their care, every bit is appreciated so we are able to carry through with our next years goal!

We found an Amber egg in the coop, which means I'm late on her implant.
We have am appointment tomorrow to reinsert her new implant for the next 6 months!

Implants cost us about $150 each hen every 6 months! if you're able to, please consider donating to Amber's 🙏🏼

🌼 Why We Implant Chickens at Black Sheep Retreat Sanctuary 🐔

✨️our mission goes beyond providing a safe haven for our beloved animals; it’s also about improving their quality of life. One of the practices we implement to achieve this is the use of implants in our chickens. Here’s why we believe it’s beneficial:

🐣 For hens, frequent egg laying can take a significant toll on their bodies. Laying eggs daily can lead to calcium depletion, weakened bones, and an increased risk of conditions such as egg binding and other reproductive disorders, including cancers. The constant reproductive cycle can also result in stress and exhaustion, which negatively impacts their overall well-being.

⚠️ Health Risks of Daily Egg Laying: Hens that lay eggs daily face various health risks. These can include:
Osteoporosis:Continuous egg production can lead to calcium loss, weakening bones and increasing the risk of fractures.
Salpingitis: This inflammatory condition of the reproductive tract can occur due to frequent egg laying, causing severe health issues.
Egg Binding: A painful and often life-threatening condition where a hen is unable to pass an egg, resulting in distress and requiring immediate veterinary care.
Exhaustion and Stress: The physical demands of daily laying can lead to chronic stress, affecting a hen's immune system and overall resilience.

🌎 Educational Opportunities: Each implant we administer is a chance to educate our visitors and followers about animal care. We advocate for responsible practices and aim to inspire others in the community to consider the health and well-being of all animals.

🐔The implantation of chickens is a vital practice that supports our commitment to compassionate care and education. By addressing the health risks associated with daily egg laying, we are ensuring that our chickens lead healthier, happier lives.

Thank you for your continued support! 🐥💚

Black Sheep Retreat- Animal Sanctuary and Vegan Self Care Retreat

Black Sheep Retreat-Animal Sanctuary and Vegan Self Care Retreat.

My goals are to give a loving forever home to rescued farm animals for them to live out their lives in peace and tranquility; and a rehabilitation and finding forever homes for dogs and cats, as well as a retreat for activists and vegans to come and focus on self care, in whatever form that is for you, whether its focusing on meditation, yoga, massages, lounging by a natural pool, spending time with rescue animals, campfires, rescue animals around the camp fires, etc, or a little more adventurous with scuba dive packages, snorkeling trips, cenote swimming/diving trips, sky diving, temazcals, trips to ruins, etc, or a mixture of both! While offering a plant based menu during the stay!

Noche is the reason I am here, he is the reason all of this started for me. I, like most vegans, may be seen as a black sheep by society, but Noche has taught me how unbelievably special the black sheep can be.
