Greetings from Whitey, Flo, and Sybil, respectively! It's a misty, chilly day, but the wind is at bay from inside our little bubble! Thank you again for the nursery plastic from our amazon wishlist- the boys are enjoying the shelter ❤️
Those big brown eyes ❤️
Look at how actively Flo listens. If only people knew how intelligent and emotional chickens are.
Larson says, Seize The Day!
Just a moment in time on an overcast late summer morning, the Pineapples enjoying veggies from the farm garden scattered about. We hope you find a little time to take in these last warm days too!
The Pineapples escaped! Their constant chatter never ceases to make me laugh. The end of the video shows how far these little hooligans made it after escaping while I was cleaning their coop 😅
BB is perfecting his penguin pose meditation after having a nice foot soak❤️ Today we are especially grateful for the donations received towards BB's care, as it seems we will be needing to go for a second opinion on some of his health issues. We are located in Michigan, and it's just so challenging to find a veterinarian that is knowledgeable in and accustomed to treating chickens with the same level of care as other companion birds. This is because, sadly, there just isn't a demand for this here. The few people who will give their backyard chickens vet care, most often will only invest a small amount to try and save them. So the vets are not used to diagnosing and treating for things that require ongoing medications or surgeries. They are often either biased themselves, or met with resistance when offering such care. This is on top of a plain shortage in avian vets- so, we have a discontinuation of pain med prescription, a chest crackle, yeasty breath, and a very concerning fluid like sound in BB's crow that often indicates heart issues (which can be treated by a combination of daily heart meds), that BB needs a second opinion on. Also, BB's bloodwork was taken the day after he finished his second run of antibiotics, and I am versed enough in these deep types of infection to believe we should take follow up xrays and bloodwork a month out. So, we will head to Ohio in a few weeks for a new set of eyes to make sure BB is on the right road. Because of your generous donations, we are able to give BB the best treatment available to us, the care he deserves. The vet's parting words to me at BB's last visit were "He sure is lucky to have found his way to you", and I would argue that he sure is lucky to have found his way into all of your hearts. Thank you, from the bottom of ours.
Some of the morning crow out! The human let us out before six am today so we could enjoy some of the day before it's scorching- stay cool y'all!
Besties Sybil & Whitey are taking turns at the dust bath on this very hot day. Dust baths are so important in the heat for de-bugging and cooling off. They especially love peat moss, and making a pit of peat moss for them makes the dust bath irresistible! The cost of peat moss has doubled, and it's 25$ for a day's worth! A generous follower sent us a check for just that amount, and off to Lowes I went- we are all so grateful for this treat in the heat ❤️
