June is Microchip month. Let’s do some basic microchip myth-busting.

* Microchips do NOT jeopardize your privacy. The information you provide to the microchip registry will only be used to contact you in the event that your pet is found and their microchip is scanned.

* The microchip is not a GPS device and cannot track your animal. But it’s the best way to contact you if your pet is found by someone.

* Placing the microchip is not a difficult procedure. It is placed with a needle and requires no surgery or anesthesia.

* Your pet may stay inside your house or yard, but Accidents happen. They can slip out, be stolen, or go missing, and microchips are the first thing we check to reunite animals with their families!

Talk to us about having a microchip for your pet. 989-792-4800

Why do dogs even HAVE a**l glands?

If you are a dog owner whose dogs have issues with these smelly sacs, the best hypotheses are that they...

* Provide some lubrication to make defecation easier
* Leave a scent so dogs can mark their territory to other dogs
* Diffuse specific pheromones to enable dogs to introduce themselves through scent

If your dog has a**l gland issues, call us at 989-792-4800.

As flowers bloom and the weather warms up, keep your pets safe during this season of renewal! Here are some spring safety tips:
* Allergy Awareness: Pets can suffer from seasonal allergies just like humans. Watch out for symptoms like itching, sneezing, and watery eyes. If you notice these signs, schedule an appointment with us to discuss treatment options!
* Pet-Safe Gardening: When planting your spring garden, be cautious of toxic plants. Some common flowers and plants like lilies, daffodils, and tulips can be harmful to pets if ingested. Keep these out of reach, or opt for pet-friendly alternatives.
* Flea & Tick Prevention: Warmer weather means an increase in fleas and ticks. Ensure your pet is protected with flea and tick prevention products. Ask us about our recommendations for your furry friend!
* Spring Cleaning Caution: Household cleaners and chemicals used during spring cleaning can be toxic to pets. Store these items securely and keep pets away from areas where cleaning occurs.
* Update ID and Microchip Information: With more outdoor adventures, there's a higher chance of pets getting lost. Ensure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date with your current contact information.

Fun Fact Friday: Cats' claws all turn downward, so they can't climb down trees head first. Instead, they have to back down the trunk. (Sometimes, they forget that fact though and get stuck.) Has your cat ever gotten stuck in a tree?

Planning a road trip with your furry friend? 🚗🐾 Here are tips to make the journey safe and enjoyable for both you and your pet:

Prep Your Pet: Make sure your dog is comfortable with car travel. Start with short trips to build up their tolerance.

Safety First: Secure your dog in the car with a pet seatbelt, carrier, or travel crate. This keeps them safe and prevents distractions.

Pack Essentials: Bring plenty of water, food, treats, and your pet's favorite toys. Don't forget their leash, waste bags, and a first aid kit.

Frequent Breaks: Stop every 2-3 hours for potty breaks, exercise, and to stretch your dog's legs. Never leave your pet alone in the car, especially in hot weather.

Health Check: Ensure your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations and has flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

ID and Microchip: Make sure your pet has a collar with ID tags and is microchipped with updated contact information.

Plan Your Route: Research pet-friendly hotels, parks, and restaurants along your route. Book accommodations in advance.

Be Prepared for Emergencies: Know where the nearest veterinary clinic is along your route in case of an emergency.

Have a safe and fun trip with your furry companion!

Is it time for your cat's check-up? Schedule your furry friend's appointment with us today! 989-792-4800 We know you dread it, but here are a few tips to make getting them to us a little easier:

1️⃣ Use a comfortable carrier: Choose a carrier that your cat feels comfortable in, with enough room to move around and a cozy blanket inside.
2️⃣ Familiarize them with the carrier: Leave the carrier out at home for a few days before the appointment so your cat can get used to it and see it as a safe space.
3️⃣ Use calming aids: Consider using calming sprays or pheromone diffusers in the carrier and car to help keep your cat relaxed.
4️⃣ Reward good behavior: After the appointment, reward your cat with treats or playtime to make the experience more positive.

It's Scoop the P**p Week! Why is it important to pick up after our furry friends?

🌳 Environmental Protection: Pet waste contains harmful bacteria and pollutants that can contaminate soil and water sources, posing risks to wildlife and human health.

🏡 Community Cleanliness: Nobody enjoys stepping in dog waste while enjoying a walk or visiting a park. By cleaning up after our pets, we contribute to maintaining clean and enjoyable public spaces for everyone.

💚 Respect for Others: Leaving pet waste behind is not only unsightly but also disrespectful to our neighbors and fellow pet owners. It's essential to show consideration for others and keep our shared spaces clean.

🌟 Responsible Pet Ownership: Scooping the p**p is a key part of being a responsible pet owner. It helps prevent the spread of diseases and contributes to the overall well-being of our furry companions.

Let's do our part to keep our communities clean and safe for all! Remember, a little effort goes a long way in making a big difference.
