SABPD Pet's Campaign for K9 KILO'S PRESENTS FOR PETS

In honor of K9 Kilo, we are currently taking donations for Friends of St. Johns County Pet Center until December 23, 2024! On Christmas morning, our officers will bring your donations to the pet center!
They are in need of food, treats, toys, and cleaning supplies for dogs and cats! You can drop off these items in our lobby Monday-Friday during normal business hours 8am-5pm. We thank you for your continued support each and every year!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Learn more about violence against pets from the Survivor Justice Action.

"Pets are not immune to domestic violence. Batterers frequently threaten, injure, maim, or kill their partners’ or children’s pets in conjunction with domestic abuse.

Because victims understand the extent of the harm that their abusers will likely inflict upon their pets, many hesitate to leave violent relationships out of concern for the safety of their pets.

When batterers abused victims, victims see the animal cruelty as part of a long history of violence aimed at them and their families.

Recognizing this, an increasing number of shelters have added kennels or instituted “safe haven” animal foster care programs in an effort to protect, victims, their children, and their pets."

In Florida, domestic violence survivors and their pets now have added protection thanks to a new law that went into effect in 2020.
