October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Learn more about violence against pets from the Survivor Justice Action.

"Pets are not immune to domestic violence. Batterers frequently threaten, injure, maim, or kill their partners’ or children’s pets in conjunction with domestic abuse.

Because victims understand the extent of the harm that their abusers will likely inflict upon their pets, many hesitate to leave violent relationships out of concern for the safety of their pets.

When batterers abused victims, victims see the animal cruelty as part of a long history of violence aimed at them and their families.

Recognizing this, an increasing number of shelters have added kennels or instituted “safe haven” animal foster care programs in an effort to protect, victims, their children, and their pets."

In Florida, domestic violence survivors and their pets now have added protection thanks to a new law that went into effect in 2020.

This handsome male kitty seems to be less than a year old, and it is very friendly. The amazing person who found him, took him to us and got him fully examined, dewormed, tested for heartworm, tested for the feline immunodeficiency (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV), and vaccinated for Rabies, FVRVP and feline leukemia. What a great day celebrating our last day of Vet Tech Week! We had so much fun, that we forgot to take pictures or videos! lol Every year, we celebrate Vet Tech Week as a team, and we celebrate our ENTIRE team...why? Because the more the merrier! On Friday 10/18, which is our “casual day” (noticed the cute and distinctive scrubs?), the entire team had lunch at Taco Libre, we also treated them with a goodie bag full of pampering gifts, and lastly, they all came back from lunch to a surprise massage with the amazing Cassandra, from Cassage Therapy ! What a fun day, and what a great team! 🥰❤️🐾
