Our 6 weeks with these babies went so fast. They are all super smart.

Finally, a medicine that seems to have brightened my day. Keep in mind that it's been an overcast, dreary, and gloomy last three weeks for me with health problems… with an overloaded regimen of drugs, medicines, intrusive apparatuses, sonar, MRIs, Doppler, x-rays, scans, dye-contrast with more coming up, which is scheduled soon…so today I will take a shiny ray of light to celebrate over.

I am talking about the new video that Jessie just finished producing and posted to YouTube!

It's the 'Pepper & Duke's Puppies……………..the Six Pack Litter'! https://youtu.be/bjA3m4DquRA

We have had them here with us since Thursday, and 'wow oh wow,' actually more like 'lollapalooza time'!

The six puppies are beyond what we breed for, true-blue, breed standard, top show-prospect conformational level…………….yes, all 6 of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of our co-owned/co-bred litters are home-raised by the dam's owners until they are six weeks old, then they come to Chambray Acres for the finishing touches until each is placed with their new owners, that we have chosen for them…………….so here are the Six Pack, now six weeks old with us at Chambray.

The exceptional sire and dam: Silver GrCh Chambrays Duke Destined For Greatness and the dam, Bronze GrCh Southern Palms Shut Up And Kiss Me, 'Pepper'!

I am going to get a bit technical here, but that is what mentoring is all about and why I am still donating my grey cells to write these posts for those around me that want to learn more about the ins and outs of breeding.

Let's start with Pepper. She is the daughter of a Korean import female from the top Korean Labrador breeder who breeds world-class show dogs, Diaz Labradors.

Pepper's sire is dual-continent, dual-registry champion, AKC Ch/FCI Col Ch Chambrays Maxed N Counter JAMSS (Sire: Bronze GrCh Summithills Joshua's Battle At Jericho X GrCh Chambrays Charmed N Counter).

So, as can be seen from looking at her pedigree, Pepper is the product of an OUTCROSS BREEDING, as neither her sire or dam are related to the 5th generation.

OutCross Breedings between two awesome breed type dogs can produce excellent offspring with the best traits from the sire and dam if they match up on an individual puppy. Likewise, if specific characteristics that don't match up well end up on a different puppy…………we will get variables that may not be what we are looking for.

So, the consistency within the litter will vary the further apart the outcross appears from the different dogs on the pedigree.
Such was the case with the litter between Max (Pepper's sire) and Cleo (Pepper's mom). That range of different-looking puppies was part of that litter.

However, one puppy stood out, heads and shoulders above the rest, and that puppy was Pepper.

Our co-owner/co-breeder, Scott Armstrong, would keep Pepper from the litter; the rest is history.

Pepper set the record for a Labrador in finishing her champion's title and then took less than 6 days to accomplish her Grand Champion's title………..back-to-back weekend shows!!!!

Okay, so we produced a super-stellar puppy from that outcross breeding; what comes next?

For the purist breeder, after an outcross breeding comes a line-breeding back to one side of the outcross!

Of course, in our case, we have 13 generations of the Chambray pedigree lined up and waiting with several sires that will load up on those favorable lines that have brought us unparalleled successes for over three decades.

A line breeding will pool together those genes from similar ancestors from both sides of the breeding.

So Peppers and Duke's kin will add more of their distinct traits, producing a consistent 'look' of similar traits in the whole litter.

Of course, what we are hoping for is that the most favorable genes, those that we prefer and appreciate, are the ones that end up as the obvious ones in each puppy produced.

Well, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Six puppies with the absolute best features from both of the parents!

As the song resonates, "That's the way, I like it,"………………….that indeed is the way like it.

So, to all my chickadees out there, clamoring to breed to the dog that the grapevine is rattling about…………….to the most recent winner at Westminster, or Crofts, or Royal Canin, or at the Nationals, the Potomac, or Wherever, USA…………….to the dog owned by the most excellent person on Facebook……………..to the breeder with the #1 dog at the top of the charts……………to the flavor of the month, or just to the dog next door………….. to get the most consistent production in a litter, Line-Breeding is the way to go.

If that line is the 'Chambray Line,' you can bet the house that the produce of that litter will pay massive interest on the bet made!

BTW, I am Interviewing & Considering the owners-to-be for this extraordinary SIX PACK Litter.

At a recent dog show, an owner with a dog showing approached me after one of our class dogs; a 13-month-old female had been awarded a Best Of Breed.

The owner of the dog couldn’t understand why her dog was not winning its class and yet this 13-month youngster had just taken a Best Of Breed over champions.

Looking at her dog, I did my best to explain one of the things that seemed the most obvious with her dog.

I told her the following: Her dog’s Front End Assembly was very much off from the dictums of the breed standard. The shoulders were very straight and not at the desired 45-degree layback.

The withers were not over the elbows; instead, they were two inches forward towards the neck. The upper arms were much shorter than the shoulder blades, where ideally they should be equal in length.

When moving, the front reach was short and choppy, with the straight shoulders; the dog’s head would drop below the withers when in movement.

She kept looking at the Best Of Breed winner I was holding trying to compare and see what it was I was describing. I don’t think she could visualize what it was I had just gone over.

So, in case others have had a hard time with the correct front-end assembly, this Bud’s For You.

Front End Assembly.

Let’s establish some points from the photo.

A) Point Of Shoulder (where the shoulder blades form the fore chest)

B) Withers (where the shoulder blades meet at the top most position on the back)

C) Elbows (the medial line of the elbow)

D) Ground forming a perpendicular vertical line with the withers

E) Midpoint of the height of the dog

Using the photograph with the highlighted areas and designated attributes, let's read the breed standard. The exact wording of the Labrador breed standard will be encased by double hashtags # #.

Point A is a 90 Degrees formed by the shoulder blade meets the upper arm.
# # Shoulders-The shoulders are well laid-back, long, and sloping, forming an angle with the upper arm of approx 90 degrees # #

A-B is the shoulder blade and A-C is the upper arm.
# # The length of the shoulder blade should equal the length of the upper arm # #

Line B-C-D, where B is the withers, C is the elbows and D is the ground.
# # Viewed from the side, the elbows should be directly under the withers, and the front legs should be perpendicular to the ground and well under the body # #

Line E is half the height of the dog at the medial line of the elbow.
# # Distance from the elbow to the ground should be equal to one-half of the height at the withers
