THE REAL REASON WILDLIFE
REHABBERS ASK YOU NOT TO FEED THAT BABY…

It’s not because we want to hog all the fun for ourselves, I promise. It’s because wild orphans aren’t typically healthy enough to digest food, when they are found.

Many are hypothermic. The body can’t even handle water when its temperature is too low. All energy is going to crucial body functions in that state. If the body has to divert energy to digesting, it will likely be fatal.

Many are very dehydrated. Animals can’t digest properly when they are dehydrated. The body pulls water into the intestines to aid with digestion. If there isn’t any water to pull from, this could cause a domino affect of problems.

All wild baby animals require a specific diet and that diet generally isn’t available in local stores. Feeding the wrong milk could cause an upset stomach or worse. And please, NEVER cow's milk.

All baby animals need specific amounts of formula calculated by their body weight. The percentage differs depending on the species.

Not every animal can drink from a bottle. The correct instrument must be used to prevent aspiration and over feeding.

Bring me a thin, dehydrated, hypothermic animal and I can probably save it. Feed that same animal before you bring it to me…there’s likely nothing I can do to bring it back.

So please, don’t feed any wild orphans that you have found this baby season. Keeping them warm is a huge help until you find a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. And please be honest when we ask what you've provided. We NEED to know if they've been fed or given anything.

These are the ways you can donate to Roxy’s Raccoon Rehabilitation Rescue Inc. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. All donations are tax deductible. Zelle, Venmo, CashApp, Paypal, Checks (and cash if you are bringing animals for care).
1. 20 lb bucket of Fox Valley formula is approximately $250. We go through approximately one bucket per month.
2. Canine and feline vaccines that are given in three doses to each Raccoon. The cost is $524.36 for the vaccination of 16 raccoons that does not count the rabies vaccines that they all get.
3. Once they go to pre-release their main diet is dog food kibble along with chicken fruits, vegetables, worms, crickets, crawfish when we can get them and mussels.
4. Medical care varies, depending on how many injured intakes we have. Some never have to see the vet and some may make multiple trips.

Rehabilitating our Wildlife is not a cheap endeavor. We are not provided any type of financial assistance from our county, state or the federal government. We are required to follow rules that put a burden on the rehabilitator and all Off Site Volunteer’s. We are strictly regulated in what we can and cannot do and what is required of us.
Please support us with your financial donations, without them we cannot continue to care for these animals that are vital to our ecosystem.
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated.
Stay tuned to future fundraisers that are in the planning stages!

We have new triplets that have come into care! This is Suki, Butch Cassidy and Mr. Green (Clue). They are doing amazing with one of our offsite volunteers. Please donate to their care. They will be with us for approximately five more months. They will receive canine, feline and rabies vaccines before release. They will be wormed continuously also. We want to give them the best start when they are released back into their natural habitat. Aren’t they the cutest?

***Please never take baby animals from the wild. If you feel they need care, please contact a licensed rehabilitator. You can contact FWC for rehabilitators in your county.***

Humans!!! Please stop trapping and hauling mama Raccoon off and dumping her. She will not survive outside of her own territory. Then rehabbers take her babies to raise up with a cost of $500 or more to raise them to release back into their habitat at about 6 months! Mama Raccoon does a much better job raising her children than we do. Please do not separate the families! Call a rehabilitator for guidance! HUMANELY EVICT!! This precious boy is crying for his momma. Breaks my heart! 💔

We got in 4 neonate intakes yesterday! Meet Gruffy and Duffy! Gruffy was growling and huffing at me yesterday! They are approximately 2 weeks old. Mom did not come back for them. It will cost approximately $500-$700 to raise them up for the next approximately 6 months until they are ready for release. Donations are greatly appreciated for their care. We are strictly volunteers. We can only do this through public donations. I am a nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible. Please share our page. Thank you.
