Rainy day hacks :)
Havana was such a grown up girl today at the MAEA horse trial, competing at Beginner Novice. She was great during her dressage test, even with her hind end slipping around the grass corners (will be putting studs in for next time!). Judge called her a very nice horse! We then easily jumped two clear rounds. She felt so confident in her take off spots and her rhythm. Good job baby girl!
A huge congratulations to the Lira family on the acquisition of Sansa! Sansa is LAR’s yearling IDSH by Cappa Irish Charmer and she is something special. Smart, pretty, long legged (maturing to 17.2!) and so sweet, Kari has dreams to take this girl up the levels of eventing and in to the Young Riders program!
Sansa will get to spend the next couple of years growing up at the Lira’s property (where they just put up a new barn for her!), learning her kindergarten skills, and then she will be back to start her formal education as a future eventer.
I am so excited for the future of this pair! 💕💕
So proud of this kid (and my pony!). Kari’s horse Clifford has been on stall rest the last three weeks and she’s been taking the opportunity to ride some of the other horses at the barn. She has been doing great with sales horse Havana this last week and was signed up for a Beginner Novice CT. After a great warmup, Havana took an off step after her first canter circle in her dressage test and yanked a shoe off, resulting in an elimination due to that ouchy foot. I offered to let Kari jump Sinatra in a 2’ and then 2’6” jumper class, since she couldn’t finish with Havana.
Kari has never ridden Sinatra and nobody besides me have ever jumped him. He is not the easiest ride and she went out there with nothing but my prep talk, about 3 minutes of coaching on the flat and over two fences total, and jumped two lovely clean and quiet rounds. Even got herself a blue in the 2’6”.
Way to go kiddo! Love seeing hard work paying off! 🥰
Pictured is baby Sansa who was an absolute angel for her first trip off property. I’m proud of how all the young horses did at a bit of a hectic environment.
Practiced loading the baby horses for the trip tomorrow. Happy to say from the time the first horse came out of the barn to the trailer door closing was six minutes. We then let them chill there and laughed at all the baby antics 😅🥰
Havana may have glared at me with the side eye to end all side eye for the rude decision on my part to allow someone ELSE to ride her… but it didn’t stop her from looking like a dream boat with Kari! She hasn’t been ridden for *coughcoughlongerthaniremember* and after some baby fun moments, I couldn’t have been happier to see her go around responding to everything Kari asked of her.
I swear, I’ll really post her for sale, soon-ish… she’ll make someone an amazing partner. This is the first time Kari has fully ridden her without me having done so first. Havana has the skills to do big girl stuff and the brain to do it with an AA or a Jr. with the loving personality that will melt anyone’s heart. 💕💕
She is technically currently for s.ale, so if you happen to fall in love from her videos, shoot me a message. If not, one day, this year…. I’ll put her official looking for new home statement out. I swear 😬
LAR is excited to be bringing our young horses to the USDF Sport Horse Seminar this weekend!
Meet breeders, judges, owners, and dressage sport horse enthusiasts, and learn how the experts evaluate dressage prospects and breeding stock
Days like today make me grateful that our barn family is as close and supportive as it is. Sunday a bunch of LAR celebrated the amazing “pony” that is Lizzy. And today, a smaller group came to support Payton as she gave Lizzy the best gift she could and said her final goodbyes.
We will all miss her sweet little face and I will miss her demanding pets from me no matter what I am doing.
Thank you to everyone who gave your love and support to Payton during this time. I know that this group is amazing but being reminded of it in times of heartache… makes that pain a little bit easier to bear.
Run free miss Lizzy and thank you for everything you gave your mama.
Sansa is such a sweet baby girl. She’s one now and I am going to finally really sell her… I’ve been dragging my feet! She is going to be something special.
The rain this past week has been putting a kink in normal training and lesson rides. So we had to get creative and also hit the roads for some hacks! Friday was the most beautiful day for some fun hacks 💕
Something special about a freshly dragged arena 😍
Great to keep in mind when you hit the show ring!
This is something to strive for in your journey:
Baby time!!!
Horse trial weekends are always such fun! Ups and downs, great moments for all riders and horses with some moments to learn from!
We have a newly minted Eventer, with Payton competing in her first USEA horse trial and ending with a 6th place in her Open Starter division!
Kari and Clifford are continuing to show off their hard work in dressage, with the second best score in BN Jr, by only 0.3 points! An unfortunate distraction on cross country but clean stadium round ended them in fifth place in a big group!
Havana handled her weekend with much more maturity than her last big outing, with an unfortunate bug sting during her free walk in dressage resulting in an overwhelmed baby moment. But she jumped around clean both phases in her first Beginner Novice and earning herself a ribbon 🙂
Sinatra and I are still struggling with his tension in dressage… but he jumped around clean and didn’t touch a single rail, with room to spare.
Glad my folks got to come up to see our rides Saturday and wonderful to see everyone enjoying the weekend. Mill Creek is always such fun ❤️❤️
It’s like Christmas in June for me! Just got notification that this beautiful thing is being processed before being shipped out to LAR! I’m so excited! Happy birthday and all that jazz from me to me (and to all the ponies and riders of course!)!!!!!
👀 that mama belly! Getting closer!
It was a great long day!
Yesterday was dental day for a third of the barn. Ten total dentals done. Sleepy boys here waking up afterwards.
Sinatra’s cross country from Queeny yesterday. There were tons of slow downs as he wanted to GO!! But i managed to slow him down enough to get us two seconds under optimum to win the Optimum Time award for Training.
I was concerned about his confidence on the water drop (two stride after a little mushroom) so I purposefully slowed him up to let him really look at it first. We had a bad schooling on a jump with a drop at Heritage that shook his confidence so I’m babying him there to make sure he gets back his confidence on those drops.
He made it all feel so easy and a breeze. I’ve got pieces to work on off xc so we can make that step up to the next level that he’s itching to do.
Chairman of the Board running Training level cross country at 2024 Queeny Park Horse Trials. Came in two seconds under optimum time and clear jumping.
When hard work pays off! So proud of this girl who worked hard this winter and was rewarded with three great phases at the first USEA horse trial of the season!
Kari and Clifford were second in a competitive Beginner Novice division at Queeny Park, checking off one of her goals of placing top two! Not only that, but they were TIP Champion for Beginner Novice (with three divisions at that level!) AND won the prize for Optimum Time at Beginner Novice as well, coming in two seconds under optimum.
It was a great weekend and the smiles at the end of each round was the best part!
Off to KC we go!
I had a full house this morning in the shed, two grays and three bays 😁
Lesson interrupted today thanks to a funnel cloud passing by 🌪️

When you have multiple horses who need conditioning work, we hit the hills in pairs! Kari rode Clifford and ponied Havana while I rode Jacob and ponied Sinatra.

A little clip of some gymnastics from last week. This one focused on shoulder control of your horse with low bounces on a decent bend. Can also be done at the trot and canter with poles on the ground for appropriate challenge at all levels!
Tonight’s jump lesson was focused on adjustability before and after fences. This exercise required riders to jump at a canter, drop down to a trot for a set of poles, pick the canter back up, jump, trot poles again and then canter a vertical at an angle. All of this required the pair to be able to make quick transitions and adjustments to gaits while keeping a forward energy and engaged hind end. It was a fun session! Video shows Prima and Tiffany at the end of their group lesson.
It’s been an exciting week for our baby Warmbloods! Drogon had his first backing and here Brego had his first ride in the arena! Brego was a good boy and took it all in stride. He’s so comfy already! Future is bright for this big boy 🤩
Sales horse Cher stretching her legs over some fences after the cold spell. She was a very good girl after being off of work for too long due to the cold and weather. Cher is looking for a new partner! Message about this sweet girl!
Oh Drogon, you silly boy. I live my goofy baby. Especially the adorable face he gives me when I call out to him and he immediately stops his fun game to come see me 🥰
It’s a winter wonderland out here! Snows been coming down since 11:00 but still out working horses and teaching lessons. 🥰
Honour, a training pony, had his first non-me ride the other week. One of my students rode him in her lesson to give me an idea of where he was at with someone else and to see where his holes might be. Elli did a great job with him and it’s great to see the skills she’s been developing shine on a new ride.
When the mud wants to suck your boots off, I opt for four hoof drive - pony style! Pirate made chores last night and this morning twice as fast, as I rode him and ponied the horses back and forward from barn to turnout. He was very willing and proud to have such an important job. He is worth his weight in gold 🥰
