Through no fault of her own, after just under two weeks in her new home, Murphy is coming back due to some unexpected life changes in the family. This pretty blue merle is eight years old, a working bred female that lost her original home after her owner passed away unexpectedly. She is located in southeast PA. About 40 pounds, Murphy is spayed, UTD on vaccinations and preventatives, housetrained, crate trained, rides great in the car, and has no idea she's mature! She acts like a much younger dog. Like any Aussie, Murphy needs exercise but does have an off switch and can curl up next to you on the couch and chill. She hears every little noise and has to know what’s going on. No cats for this girl, and no small children as she's never been around them. Murphy is exuberant with her friends and fine with strangers, just indifferent until she gets to know them. She would be a good chore dog but doesn’t need stock. She does need someone who is experienced with the breed and understands the unique needs of a working dog mentality. Murphy would be best with someone who wouldn't leave her alone for long periods or confined in a small area. She has coexisted with four Belgian Tervurens and a Corgi and did fine, although she can be a bit pushy. She can run with any of them and doesn’t seem to have any issue with the other two bi***es. She has several advanced herding titles on stock and also has a tracking title.Murphy is not in the ARPH program, but we are screening applications for her. Murphy has the potential to do whatever you want to do! She would be a wonderful, devoted companion for the right person, someone committed to regular, consistent exercise and stimulation for her. Could you be that person? If you think you might be, please submit an application for adoption at www.aussierescue.com

Calling all rescue Aussies that are great hiking companions! This is for the rescue article in the Australian Shepherd Journal. :) I've done a series of "Rescue Aussies Doing", including therapy and dog sports. But I'm sure there are many out there who are great hiking/trail buddies! Now I don't mean just a walk about the block or around the park, I'm looking for some great adventures! :)
Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you have such a dog, or please pass this on if you know someone who does! Thanks!

Any rescue Aussies out there doing disc/Frisbee? Yep, I'm back looking for participants in still one more "Rescue Aussies Doing" article. :) I do know of some but like to have several, and it can be a deceased dog. They don't have to be ARPH Aussies but should be rescues. Please contact me privately at [email protected] if you or anyone you know might be willing to be featured. Thanks!

Hi, I'm Axel, ARPH #14509! I'm an eight month old neutered red tri male with a full tail, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives. Like most Aussies, I need regular, consistent exercise but do know how to settle. I've learned how to sit, give paw, wait, and am working on down.. Playing with toys and balls and going for walks are things I love to do! Some other dogs are okay, like my younger Aussie sister. The older one (who is not interested in playing!) wants to be left alone, so I wisely don't bother her. Sometimes I am itchy, but a Claritin once a day helps. I'm housebroken and will let you know when I need to go out and am a good boy all night. Have I mentioned I love my toys and going for walks? Although I'm not destructive, I do need things to chew. I walk really nicely on leash, love people and snuggling, and I ride very well in the car. Crates are not my favorite thing, but if you give me a yummy chew treat like a filled and frozen Kong and don't leave me too long, it's okay. A Vari-kennel type crate would be the safest to use, though, so I don't try to get out. I will need some work when around strange dogs because I bark at them, possibly trying to get them to play since I love to play. Good treats can get my attention back. Cats are unknown, but I have a high prey drive, so no cats. Because of my activity level, only children over 10 will be considered. A traditionally fenced yard, continued training, and most definitely something to do are all on my new home wish list, and I'd especially love a home with people who are around much of the time.I might be a little red diamond in the rough, but some patience and love will turn me into a wonderful companion that will make you smile every day if you are willing to put the time and energy into meeting my needs. I am fostered near Topton, PA. Check out my video!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn_qdm8OzOY&feature=youtu.be

Looking for a walking/jogging/running partner? This boy LOVES his walks, and once he drops more poundage, he'll be ready for even more! A big, beautiful 3 1/2 year old blue merle with a full tail and one blue eye, Hank was 89 pounds when he came in and should weigh 55-60 pounds max. He obviously received a few too many treats and not enough exercise and is currently engaged in a weight loss program. Although he was loved, he was too big and too busy for his previous owner. Hank is up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives and is looking for a home that will enjoy walking and being outside as much as he does. With only minimal pulling when first starting out, Hank is an excellent loose leash walker and easily handles a three mile walk each day. He seems to have a very low prey drive; bunnies and squirrels encountered while walking barely receive a notice. He would, however, chase deer if given the opportunity. Most passing vehicles don't bother him, but larger, noisy ones are a bit disconcerting. So he'd need to be leash-walked with a secure collar or have a traditionally fenced yard. No invisible/electric fences. He is very willing to work for treats and is learning there are rules that must be followed-like no counter surfing or dashing out the door. He has not been destructive but will occasionally pick up and carry things around. Hank loves to be with his people. He could possibly live with the right other dogs(s) but would be fine as an only. Hank is a medium energy level dog, and he likes to chase balls but hasn't learned to bring them back. Children are unknown, and due to his size he will not be placed with any under 16. A dog-savvy cat is a possibility; he is fine with the cat in his foster home. Hank enjoys being brushed. He travels well in the car but for safety, he should have a harness and seatbelt restraint or ride in his crate. He is housebroken and will tell you if he has to go out. Sometimes he'll tell you he has to go out, but he really just wants to be outside or go for a walk. He is crate-trained and sleeps quietly at night, but he will fuss briefly if you go off and leave him. Hank is ready to assume his role in a new active home and will provide years of love and companionship to the right owner. A confident, experienced person who would be willing to continue his training and education in manners will help him become an excellent companion. He would love having someone at home much of the time or someone who would take him along. If you might be that person and are an approved adopter, please contact Kay at [email protected] If you are not already approved, please go to our website and submit an application for adoption. https://www.aussierescue.org/

Meet Axel ARPH #14509! Axel is a seven month old neutered red tri male with a full tail. He will be up to date on all vaccinations and will be available after his vet visit on 6/28. Axel is on the higher end of the energy scale but does settle when he needs to. He knows sit, is working on down, and he loves playing with toys and balls and going for walks. He is good with other dogs and enjoys playing with the younger of his Aussie foster sisters. He wisely leaves the older one(who is not interested in playing!)alone. Axel will give a bark when he needs to go out. He's crate-trained but isn't fond of it and has escaped a wire one so will need a different type. He rides great in the car and loves people. He will need some work when he's around strange dogs; he will bark at them, possibly trying to get them to play since he lives to play. Cats are unknown, and because of his activity level, only children over 12 will be considered. Axel will need a traditionally fenced yard, continued training and most definitely something to do. He'd love a home with people who are around much of the time and a canine companion. This little red diamond in the rough will make a wonderful companion for someone willing to put the time and energy into meeting his needs. Axel is fostered near Topton, PA. Meet Bruno ARPH #14510! This handsome boy turned two in May and came into rescue through no fault of his own. His owner just didn’t realize what he was getting into with an Aussie. Neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations, Bruno is a sweet soul looking for his forever home. He is a little reserved with strangers at first, but then friendly, and when he finds his person he just wants to be with them, whether that is playing outside with a Frisbee, going for a walk, or just hanging out in the house. He has been a perfect gentleman in his foster home; he is always up for fun, but can turn it off once playtime is over. Bruno already knows sit, paw, waiting at the door to go out, and waiting for his food. He is a smart boy and will benefit from continued training. His foster home is working on better leash manners since he pulls a bit, but that is a work in progress. Bruno isn’t fazed by the busy road outside his foster home and enjoys going on walks to explore the neighborhood. He LOVES riding in the car! He has not live with children so will only be placed with those 12 and over. Bruno is respectful when meeting other dogs, but cats are unknown. He does like to chase the squirrels out of the yard, so he may like to chase cats, too. Bruno is just a pleasure to have around, and as he’s gotten accustomed to his new digs, his wonderful personality is shining through. He has a medium energy level and is just as happy lying by your side as he is going out for an adventure. Bruno is fostered in southeast PA and will be available after June 28. If you think you may be a good fit for Bruno, please contact Kay at [email protected] if you are already approved. If you are not yet approved, please fill out an application from our website. https://www.aussierescue.org/

The 2024 Aussie Rescue calendar casting call entry deadline has been extended to June 21 due to an insufficient number of photos.
We will also be accepting “memorial” photos of ARPH adopted dogs that passed away between 2019 & 2023. All the same submission requirements apply.
Due to the lack of photo entries and rising costs, this may be our last calendar. So, let’s make it a great one!

*Chase is an almost 3 year old neutered black tri male Aussie, up to date on vaccinations. From his owner: Chase knows some commands(heel, come, stay, sit), is housebroken and crate-trained. He rides in the car in a hammock in the back seat and likes to look outside while riding. He loves toys, mainly small ones like the doggo (oreo toy) from Bark Box. He has not lived with children and does not get along with the other male dog, but he has successfully interacted with females. Chase has never been exposed to cats. He walks on a leash really well. He does counter surf, so he is kept out of the kitchen when someone is cooking. Here is a video of Chase being silly on the couch. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/uAYICK4zgkI
Chase is located near Pittsburgh. Please contact Kay Marks(who is screening homes for the owner) at [email protected] if you are already approved. If not approved, please go to our website and submit an application for adoption and note you are interested in Chase. https://www.aussierescue.org/

Helping ARPH and making the difference in the life of an Aussie is something everyone can do. There are so many ways to help:

Volunteer - help us with home visits, phone screening of applications, fundraising, dog evaluations and much more. Become a volunteer. http://www.aussierescue.org/volunteer

Foster - foster homes are needed throughout the region. Find room in your heart and home for a brief time to help an Aussie in need. http://www.aussierescue.org/volunteer

Become a rep - Reps are the center of the rescue activities in the region. They are the people who approve adoption applications, determine if a dog is suitable to enter the ARPH program, and are the ones who work with the volunteers in an area.
Reps are the center of the rescue activities in the area. They are the people who approve adoption applications, determine if a dog is suitable to enter the ARPH program, and are the ones who work with the volunteers in an area.
Reps should have strong leadership skills, be a team player, and be organized. They should also have Aussie experience and understand dog behavior. It is helpful for reps to have some RESCUE experience.

We are presently in need of Rescue Reps in Delaware, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York (western), Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Please message us if you would like more information.

Donate - we are very appreciative to those of you who financially support us. http://www.aussierescue.org/donate

Share our posts on Facebook. Sharing our dogs, our fundraisers and our requests for volunteers helps us more than you can imagine.

Alert us to Aussies in need.

Share information about ARPH with owners who need to place an Aussie.

Please help to spread the word by sharing this post.

Don't forget to purchase your 2023 Aussie Rescue calendar! And please consider purchasing more of them as holiday gifts. $23 and shipping is free. We will even mail them to your recipients and include a personalized note if requested so they know the gift giver. For details on purchasing go to: http://aussierescue.org/2023-Calendar Foster dogs often require more extensive veterinary care than our $300 adoption fees cover. Even routine veterinary care (vaccinations, fecals, heartworm and tickborne disease testing, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, spay/neuter, etc) usually costs more than our adoption fee. It is only through fundraisers and generous donors that we can continue to rescue Australian Shepherds, Aussies like Finn shown in the picture leaving the shelter on his freedom ride.
As always, thank you for your support!
