This adorable boy is still looking for his forever home!! Meet River, ARPH #14663, an 18 month old neutered red tri male with a higher energy level. He’s up to date on shots and preventatives; is housebroken, crate trained, and has been very good in his crate at night or when left alone at his foster home. River came to ARPH through no fault of his own from a home with two other dogs and a couple cats. Originally adopted from a shelter, he got along well with his doggy sister, but the older, intact male dog did not appreciate having River around. The situation was escalating, and the owners made the hard decision to find River a new home.
River LOVES Frisbee, fetch, toys, and according to his former owners, he also loves to swim. He loves being around his people and learning new things. He already knows sit, down, shake, let it go; roll-over. River has a consistent recall when he’s not distracted by the squirrels. He was seldom on leash in his previous home, so his leash manners are a work in progress. He’s a very quick learner though, and very food motivated. He is getting used to the leash and is learning to wait before going out the door.
River would do well in a home with a female playmate or as an only dog. He did live with dog savvy cats but tended to resource guard with them. No children under 16. The right home would have a traditionally fenced yard and would be someone willing to take the time to continue River's training. He definitely needs regular, consistent exercise and might be able to do dog sports or tricks. He'll be a wonderful companion and a lot of fun in the right home. River is fostered in southeast PA.
Are you the perfect home for River? If so and you are already approved, please contact Kay at [email protected] If interested and have not yet been approved, please submit an application for adoption at www.aussierescue.org

Meet Silas, ARPH #14662! This handsome, sweet, not quite four year old(12/29 is his birthday.) neutered blue merle was well-loved but came to rescue when his family lost their home. Silas weighs around 50 pounds and is up to date on preventatives. He knows sit, down, come, shake/paw, and stay, although not always reliably. He was housebroken and crate trained in his previous home, but he does complain if crated now in his busy foster home; he's afraid he's going to miss something!
Silas was raised with children; a home with them would be considered on an individual basis. He is good with other dogs and could live with dog-savvy cats. Never having been taught leash manners, he's a bulldozer on leash so would need work on that. He enjoys riding in the car but needs a reminder to wait before jumping out. He loved going to Petco to choose a toy. Silas loves beef chew bones, toys, and playing fetch, although he's not always willing to give the toy/ball back.
Silas is very food motivated and learns quickly. He's very affectionate, gives kisses, and loves to snuggle until it's time to do something; then he's eager to go and do whatever you ask of him.
Silas is on the higher end of moderate energy so will need regular, consistent exercise. A traditionally fenced yard is preferred so he can exercise safely. Fortunately, he's got a good off switch inside. He will make a wonderful companion that will be totally devoted to his owner. He is fostered near Bath, PA. If you are already approved, please contact Kay at [email protected] If interested and not approved, please submit an application from our website at www.aussierescue.org

Meet McFly(Mc for short!)!! This cute red tri is a 3 year old neutered male(with a tail), up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, and weighing in at about 44 pounds. He's been very well-loved, but the addition of a grandchild and the loss of one of the dogs in the home have changed things. From his owner: McFly knows multiple commands such as kennel, down, off, 4 on the floor, sit, five, and lie down. He is also agility and obedience trained (but too many distractions with other dogs to grasp the concepts). Mc is an absolute loving, goofing energetic boy that loves ALL ADULTS. He is referred to at the office as the "Walmart Greeter". He absolutely gives his heart and soul to pleasing, playing and grabbing all the attention he can around any adult. He has the best Aussie smile I've ever seen. He loves his toys, balls, and running around... loves being around his adult people... does have a nice off switch in a quiet environment, but gets overly excited when company comes but settles quickly after he has finished his meet, greet and got all the attention he can. “ Mc is currently on Prozac to help him deal with the situation in his current home; that may not be necessary in a new environment. He would do best in an adult only home with no other pets, a home that would be willing to give him the proper exercise and stimulation he needs. He is located in Tonawanda, NY. If you are interested in adopting or would like more information, please contact Kay, who is screening homes for the owner, at [email protected]
Here is McFly's video.

Are you looking for a wonderful family companion who will be happy just to be with you? Meet Marley, ARPH #14661, a four year old black tri female who landed in rescue through no fault of her own. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines and preventatives. Marley is a medium energy girl with a sweet personality. She likes chewy things but isn't very interested in toys, although she enjoys playing with a ball in the yard. But she is just as happy relaxing next to you in the house. Marley is a little shy when she first meets people, but after the first few minutes, she’s a love bug who just wants to be petted. She walks very well on a leash and is not bothered at all by any traffic that goes by. Marley is crate trained and very well behaved in her foster home. She knows ‘sit’ and is quickly learning how to ‘wait’ before going outside or eating her food. Marley just wants to be around her people and is happiest when she is near them. She is a little pudgy, so she does need regular, consistent exercise. She has already lost some weight since getting to her foster home. Marley lived with an older neutered male dog and two cats. She got along well with the dog but did like to chase the cats(no harm intended). Marley lived with two young children, so homes with children may be considered. She enjoys chasing the squirrels around the yard, but stops once they get outside the fence. Marley will make someone a wonderful, loyal companion.
Are you the special someone that Marley is looking for? She is fostered near Jeffersonville, PA. If you are already approved, please contact Kay at [email protected] If not yet approved, please submit an application from our website at www.aussieresue.org

Updated bio with new info!
Hi, everyone! My name is Mia, also known as ARPH #14660. an eight month old red tri, spayed and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. I like balls, tuggy, chase, and love playing in water. I'd be fun to have around a lake. I’m enjoying my foster family; I’m one of those Velcro Aussies. I’ll stick near you if you’re outside and come when I’m called! I love meeting and greeting new people on my morning walks. I’ve been told I’m a very stunning girl so am a great conversation starter on the trail. I enjoy hiking, swimming, and helping in the garden. I’m really up for just about anything. I have a beautiful, easy to maintain Aussie coat of medium length, and I enjoy baths and being brushed- especially if cheese sticks are offered! After a busy day I will settle nicely in the evening and can usually be found close by. I’d be the perfect addition to an active home looking for a fun companion. Although on the moderate side of the energy scale, I do need something to do. Having a playful male sibling would be super for exercise and stimulation. I’m learning better manners, especially not jumping on people or exploring countertops, and how to wait just a little bit for good things. I settle nicely in the car for rides, am crate trained and house trained. I sleep in my crate at night and stay there if I’m home by myself. My foster mom says I’m a fast learner. I know come, sit, down, stay, and I am learning tricks like spin and rollover! I've lived with cats, but dog savvy ones would be best. My vet has a resident cat in the office and when I met her, I went into full wiggle butt mode. Children ten years old and up will be considered. A traditionally fenced yard is preferred, and a training class would be beneficial. If you’d like to see me in action, watch my video.

My foster home is near State College, PA, and I’m ready for my new home. If you think you might be the right home for me, one that will continue my training and help me blossom into the best dog I can be, please submit an application

Hi, everyone! My name is Mia, also known as ARPH #14660. I'm a seven month old red tri girl who's spayed and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Like a typical puppy, I enjoy learning new things and playing any chance I get. I like balls, tuggy, chase, and love playing in water. I'd be fun to have around a lake. I’m enjoying my foster family and would be happy to have a male doggy sibling and a securely fenced yard in which to play safely. I’m learning better manners, especially not jumping on people, exploring countertops, and how to wait just a little bit for good things. If you call me, I will come (usually)! I’m crate trained and working hard at being house trained. I sleep in my crate at night and stay there if I’m home by myself. My foster mom says I’m a fast learner. I enjoy walking on a leash and am getting used to meeting new people and other dogs. I’m not an annoying barker but might bark if I’m startled. So many things are new to me, but I'm adjusting to them quickly. I’m a sturdy girl, weighing about 50 pounds. I've lived with cats, but dog savvy ones would be best. I’ve been around young children before but would probably do best in a home with adults and older children. In my enthusiasm for life, I can get a bit rambunctious and might knock someone down. If you’d like to see me in action, watch my video.

Through no fault of her own, after just under two weeks in her new home, Murphy is coming back due to some unexpected life changes in the family. This pretty blue merle is eight years old, a working bred female that lost her original home after her owner passed away unexpectedly. She is located in southeast PA. About 40 pounds, Murphy is spayed, UTD on vaccinations and preventatives, housetrained, crate trained, rides great in the car, and has no idea she's mature! She acts like a much younger dog. Like any Aussie, Murphy needs exercise but does have an off switch and can curl up next to you on the couch and chill. She hears every little noise and has to know what’s going on. No cats for this girl, and no small children as she's never been around them. Murphy is exuberant with her friends and fine with strangers, just indifferent until she gets to know them. She would be a good chore dog but doesn’t need stock. She does need someone who is experienced with the breed and understands the unique needs of a working dog mentality. Murphy would be best with someone who wouldn't leave her alone for long periods or confined in a small area. She has coexisted with four Belgian Tervurens and a Corgi and did fine, although she can be a bit pushy. She can run with any of them and doesn’t seem to have any issue with the other two bi***es. She has several advanced herding titles on stock and also has a tracking title.Murphy is not in the ARPH program, but we are screening applications for her. Murphy has the potential to do whatever you want to do! She would be a wonderful, devoted companion for the right person, someone committed to regular, consistent exercise and stimulation for her. Could you be that person? If you think you might be, please submit an application for adoption at www.aussierescue.com

Calling all rescue Aussies that are great hiking companions! This is for the rescue article in the Australian Shepherd Journal. :) I've done a series of "Rescue Aussies Doing", including therapy and dog sports. But I'm sure there are many out there who are great hiking/trail buddies! Now I don't mean just a walk about the block or around the park, I'm looking for some great adventures! :)
Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you have such a dog, or please pass this on if you know someone who does! Thanks!
