We agree! Run, don’t walk down to Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center and adopt your new best friend. Then tell your friends to do the same!

Update: Adoption fees have been waived until further notice so the dogs at the shelter who are already vetted can go home to make room and free up resources for these newcomers! It's sad but true. 27 small dogs were dumped outside of Calistoga last night. They were crammed into small crates and abandoned. We are upset for all the obvious reasons, just like you are. It's truly awful that someone felt they had no choice but to leave them and hope for the best. Many people not involved in animal rescue don't know that adoptions are at an all-time low. Pet owners are struggling to find pet friendly housing and affordable veterinary care for their animals. Wait lists for low cost s/n are long. Shelters are full of amazing dogs who wait far too long for their happily ever afters. Backyard breeders can't even give their puppies away for free, let alone sell them these days. We have reached a whole new level of crisis.

Perhaps the folks who discarded these dogs called their shelter and were turned away because there's no room for owner surrenders. Maybe they ran out of dog food and didn't know how to get assistance. They probably told themselves there were no other options. It's possible they got a free puppy in front of a grocery store last year and already had one unaltered dog at home. They may have had good intentions but no resources to prevent a difficult situation from becoming serious.

The good news is that animal control responded, and these dogs are safe and sound at the Napa County Animal Shelter. We are SO LUCKY to have a wonderful shelter, but taking in this many animals overnight will absolutely be a strain on their staff and volunteers. If you can adopt, please do! Bringing home a dog you have the ability and space to care for and love will free up space for these new chi-mixes. Now would be a phenomenal time to sign up to be a foster at the Napa shelter, too! The Napa shelter can only be successful if they are supported by the community. Your involvement is the key 🧡

We are so excited to be participating in this years Napa Valley CanDo's GiveGuide!!! Donations raised through Give Guide to go to help special animals like Ghost!

Ghost is a darling 2 month old Siamese born with a condition called Swimmers Syndrome which causes his back legs to not work right. Thanks to his amazing foster he is getting the physical therapy he needs to live a normal, happy life!

We had a female young cat brought in this morning. Similar to the one in this picture. The cat did not have a microchip. She was found on the corner of Main Street and Charter Oak Ave. If this is your cat please come by the shelter or call 707-963-7044.

Is this your dog? A male neutered dog was brought to the shelter after being found running lose. He has a microchip but unfortunately it was never registered.

If this is your dog please stop into the Saint Helena Police Department with your ID and proof of ownership.
