IMPORTAMT MESSAGE TO ALL CORNERSTONE CUSTOMERS!
Dear Clients and Friends,
Remember that it is still summertime so continue to control flies! Just like you and I, calves also need to stay hydrated during this hot weather, so make sure there is always clean water available for them to drink from day one. Water is vital to fight dehydration in newborn and weaned calves. Electrolytes can also be given at noon for the first few days after receiving the calves to help with dehydration.
Do not use the eyes (sunken) as a measurement for how dehydrated your calves are. At the point where you see sunken eyes in your calves, you may have missed your window for treatment (if the eyes are sunken the calf is almost 10% dehydrated). With that said, use the skin pinch test to check your calves for dehydration. To perform this test, pinch the calfโs skin on either the neck or the shoulder and let it go. If the skin takes more than 2 seconds to return to normal, then the calf is dehydrated.
Exciting News! There are 2 new products on the market this month.
Valcor โ Dewormer (Active ingredients: Doramectin and Levamisole) This is comparable to Dectomax and Levamisole combined.
Specto Gard โ Spectinomycin Injectable
Along with your invoices, you will find a blank recordkeeping form. By law, producers are responsible for keeping records of medication used in cattle. By keeping track of these records, we can ensure antibiotic residues will not be found when animals are sent to slaughter or sold at the sale barn. Please watch for meat withdraw and follow them very closely!
