Life has been busy and I’ve neglected the garden for a full week.

Even a mere week can be transformative in a flower garden…..so much going on…so much changing constantly.

Right now there are bursts of color everywhere.

And this is why I hold space for my spring flowers. I’m not quick to rip and renew that space because inevitably they will give me a second GORGEOUS flush right at the time I need it the most….and it is spectacular!

I know it’s fall and we are supposed to be digging the fall color vibes, but man, I’m over here feeling like it’s spring wedding season and digging every bit of the cheery feeling it brings 🤣

Picture this: fall candle making + decorating pumpkins with home grown dried floral + festive cocktails + all the fall vibes …. FALL HEAVEN!!

We are so excited to partner with Wild Hearts Flower Farm out of St. Jacob to bring you this special event where you can have the perfect fall afternoon while supporting two local, women owned businesses!

🍂Sunday, October 6: two sessions - 12:30 pm & 3 pm. Spots are LIMITED!

🍁DETAILS: Time to get creative! Enjoy a self guided candle making experience where you choose your own vessel, scent, and candle toppings to custom create your own fall candle. While your candle cures (1 hour), you’ll choose from a variety of home grown dried floral to hot glue onto your choice of either 3 mini pumpkins or 1 small pumpkin. Your ticket includes all the materials and supplies to create your candle and pumpkin. Fall cocktails and mocktails will be available for purchase!

Today I did something for the first time that goes against all of my values as a flower farmer.

Up until this point, I have prided myself in growing every single stem and watching over the flower field with tender loving care before it was harvested and ultimately enjoyed in your home!

AND after learning about the floral industry and the unregulated chemicals and fumigation that goes with it, it had me too scared to ever buy from a storefront or grocery store again!

But today I had to undertake a task that was too big for me, and for great reason…..it’s my daughter’s last homecoming dance and she wanted to have a flower making party where all of her friends come over and make bouquets…..I mean, hello! What a great memory maker…… of course I’m in.

Once the inspo pics started coming in it was apparent right away that they were looking for traditional flowers….the roses, the baby’s breath….they wanted the big hitters, not my flowers, sigh. Thank you TikTok trends, how about promoting the extraordinary and whimsical world of the natural wildflower look…I digress 🤦🏼‍♀️

Anyway,
So off to the floral warehouse I went today. And guess what? I still got the same buzzing, heart thumping, grand feelings of joy that comes with all things flowers. And there was a greenhouse that I could have taken up residency in! Oh they are my heaven on earth 😍
Mad respect for it. ALL of it. And it made me realize that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. It can be compromise, it can be respecting an industry in the way they do things, meeting in the middle to still be able to radiate outwards all the joys and happiness that comes with flowers. Just please don’t stick your nose in the flowers and smell them 🥴
except for mine…you can inhale and bury your nose to your hearts desire in mine ♥️

Moral of the story. Compromise. Respect. Hope - That the industry is on a new horizon in the right direction of supporting domestic flower growers, and in return, I will respect an industry that has upheld their presence for generations to provide people with beauty and love and all the good feelings that come with it.

And as always, I will ALWAYS be transparent about my flowers. Like this lovely post, because more than likely a whole bunch of high school photos will be coming soon and I can’t take credit for a single one of them lol.

As this season is coming to a fast end, I find myself reflecting alot. It’s been so fun thinking about where I began, where I am at now, and where I am headed. It also leads me to give a lovely shoutout to this person, Jan Kukla Wallace, who invited me in with open arms when I pitched my first idea of selling flowers at her place. Since then, she has allowed me to grow at my own pace and pitch new ideas to allow her customers and mine to live in perfect harmony together. She’s there to listen to my “next phase” ideas and always lends a connection to a person that I can talk to in the industry that can further grow my inspiration and ideas. She is the kindest soul you will ever encounter.

We also share a common denominator in how cancer has affected our families. Her mom and my dad both suffered from cancer. We both had an intense conversation one day about our own discovery of cbd benefits and the overall fascination of the endocannabinoid system. How in the world does the general population not know about these benefits?! I know that I only stumbled upon it because I was helping research my dad’s cancer diagnosis and how to help in naturopathic ways. What is absolutely inspiring about her business is that she has set out to educate and provide the community with top cbd products. She doesn’t just sell them, she educates,
becomes your advocate, your advisor, AND goes one step further by being a complete seed to sale facility….this means they grow, process, and manufacture their product locally from start to finish ensuring the utmost quality in their products.

I fully believe in Jan’s mission and encourage you to stop by and talk with her more about it. And in true Jan style, you will always find more than you were looking for….coffee, one of a kind awesome vendor products, a golf simulator, Lounge room, community gathering/meetings and so many fun classes and workshops. I cannot thank Karin Doolin and her husband Roger enough for the effort they put into this photo shoot, THEY are nothing short of amazing and I’m honored to know them.

Ok are you ready for the best story ever…..

I’ve actually been crushing on Karin’s life secretly for YEARs now lol. If there ever was a human being that encompassed all the good things in life, this woman is it. From the first time she posted a friend’s wedding photos years ago….. I was hooked on her journey. The way that she weaved in story telling behind her photo sessions was captivating. And then, if she hadn’t impressed me enough, I find out that she created a foundation called Big Picture Project. This organization would travel abroad to underserved communities and create connections through the art of photography. Often handing their camera over into the hands of children and teaching them how to use it and helping sometimes to produce the first ever family picture to hang in their living space. As their humanitarian worked evolved, a need was seen to help underprivileged communities thrive by creating a fair trade above living wage, provide ethical work conditions, and eliminate slave labor. All of this created OOAK (One Of A Kind) marketplace where all of the merchandise encompasses all the good things that you want and need to be a part of!

If you cannot tell I could go on and on about this couple.

Soooooooo, I finally put my big girl farmer pants on and worked up the courage to ask her to be a part of my journey as I figure out the rest of it.

Even though they have recently stepped away from the life of wedding photography, they have entered into an exciting new phase representing people like me, fresh off the new business roller coaster and chomping at the bits to scream about my business from all the rooftops. She was able to sort out my need to be authentic paired with my desire to be slightly out of my comfort zone with some girly pics 😍. All in all, she captured me….authentically and unapologetically ME. And I just love each and every one of them!!

I cannot say enough great things about Jamie and her business SoCal Soul!!! Every time I interact with her, I just fall in love with her passion and purpose even more. I love people who can rejuvenate the soul just by talking to them. Her knowledge about plants is astounding and her desire for you to succeed at making your plants thrive is heartwarming!

Did I mention she makes HOUSE CALLS?!!!! Yep, you got that right….I booked my appointment already and I’m so excited for her to work her magic inside my home. Stay tuned for another post about this! Eeeeek, so excited ♥️

Until then, enjoy my haul today! The sign says it all! Yes being among the flowers is my happy place, but when it turns fall….houseplants take over my wild heart!!!!

Cousins unite!!…..errr ….. reunite!!!!

You all know my deep love for promoting and supporting “small business” and this one hits close to home…..making it that much sweeter!

Not too long ago, Laura and I reconnected on Facebook. It had been years since we saw each other so of course we met up to catch up on life! I was so thrilled and excited and inspired to learn that she owns a Vineyard in St Rose. !!!!! A VINEYARD !!!!! Her grapes have produced award winning wine and have I mentioned that they have even been awarded grape growers of the year!

We walked away from our visit with our hearts swelled to the max and maybe even a little teary eyed in between. It was fun to hear that our love of growing things runs deep in the lineage and I CANNOT LOVE THIS MORE 🥰

It is a day like today that gives me a big boost of revival. Getting to “play” without the looming farm tasks to distract me. It grounds me.

Eye candy for the soul, I call it. It’s a way to showcase just how gorgeous and generous Mother Nature is with her colors and textures…and just….everything!

For awhile now, I’ve been obsessed with finding the deepest darkest colors that can come from a plant. Near black is what I’m looking for. (May want to look up the health benefits of it too 😉) So I grow the darkest tomatoes, basil, sunflowers, petunias….and gosh darn, one day, Dahlias. The darkest dahlia is still elusive in the Unitied States, but I will prevail with one…..one day!
Adding to the garden methodically will be blackberries and elderberries…and I already have blueberries and Concord grapes 🙌🏼
It is a sweet nod to my dad who discovered a near black petunia years ago and was so excited that he talked on and on about it. Year after year, he would search for another hanging baskets full of them. Because of this, each year, I buy a hanging basket full of black petunias just so I can smile and keep that memory going.

If you also haven’t noticed, I have an obsession with colorful tomatoes 🤣. You better believe I can taste the rainbow!
