Another great article from the St James Police St. James Police Department on how you can protect your pets during the Winter Cold.

Tips for Outdoor Pet Safety During Winter

If your pets spend time outdoors during cold weather, follow these tips to keep them safe and healthy:

Provide a Warm Shelter

Use a well-insulated, waterproof shelter.
Keep it elevated off the ground and ensure the entrance is covered to block wind.
Line it with straw or bedding for added warmth.
Fresh Water Access

Check water bowls frequently to ensure they don’t freeze.
Use heated water bowls if possible.
Nutrition and Energy

Outdoor pets may need extra calories to maintain body heat.
Consult your vet about adjusting their diet for winter.
Paw Protection

Ice, snow, and salt can irritate or injure paws.
Wipe their paws after being outside and consider using pet-safe booties.
Regular Checks

Look for signs of frostbite or hypothermia, such as shivering, lethargy, or pale extremities.
Bring pets indoors if they show any signs of discomfort or distress.
Limit Exposure Time

Even hardy breeds can suffer in extreme cold.
Monitor the time they spend outside, especially during severe weather.
Reflective Gear

Use reflective collars or jackets if your pet is outdoors after dark to ensure they are visible.
Avoid Antifreeze

Keep antifreeze and other chemicals out of reach.
Clean up spills immediately, as antifreeze is toxic and can be tempting to pets.
Be Mindful of Age and Health

Puppies, elderly pets, and those with health issues are more vulnerable to the cold.
Provide extra protection or keep them indoors.
Emergency Preparedness

Have a plan for extreme weather. Know when it’s too cold and bring pets inside if necessary.
By taking these precautions, you can help ensure your pets stay safe and comfortable all winter long!

Stay Warm and protect your pets ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

Winter can be a dangerous time for pets if their owners are not properly prepared to protect them from the cold.

Gladys was missing when we came back from our holiday travels on the 27th. We think she may have slipped out unnoticed when we left Christmas day. She is a very nervous cat and is very food oriented. She is not aggressive to people but does not like other animals. She does not have a collar on, but she is chipped.
