Hello, AquaRealmers!!

Today is going to be another hot day. More so than yesterday. Some reports with the heat index of near 100 degrees.

These warm temperatures are deadly not just to people ( so please stay hydrated and cool)
Out pets too.. ALL PETS well unless they are a Uromastix which love it 110 to 120 degrees.

Please keep A/C units on (but don't have them in the direct path of the cool air) keep ice packs in your fish tanks, Axilotle tanks, and Ice in your dogs and cats' water dishes.

We are open and keeping cool here. Stop in and pick up a cool treat for your dog or cat and yourself.

Good Morning AquaRealmers!!!

It is supposed to be extremely hot and humid the next few days.
It is important with these temps to keep all pets cool and comfortable.

Dogs & Cats
Make sure they are inside
Dish with fresh cool water ( you can put ice cubes in the water)
If you have A/C keep it going
You can give them cool treats like Frozen yogurt for dogs/cats, Ben and jerry's dog ice cream and or you can put dog or cat creamy in the freezer making a sweet cool treat.

Small Animals
Many do not do well with hot temperatures so it is vital to keep them cool
Make sure they have cool water (not to cool as it could cause bottles to leak)
Keep them in the coolest spot in the home with A/C or fan going (you want to keep them out of the direct blast)

Reptiles
Depending on the reptile on what you may need to do to keep them comfy.
When we think Reptiles we think they love heat, however, though many (Not all) like it 80 to 89 degrees during the day they do need areas to go to cool down.

If the room isn't cooled by A/C
Shut off heat lamps, but you can keep UVB lights on.

Lizards like Crested geckos, gargoyle geckos over 80 degrees can kill them.
So Keep them in a cooled room, have a fan going add a cooling fan or take them to a friend's or family house that is cooler.

Fish/Axilotles
Best way to keep them cool isn't by putting in cool water this can cause fish to get Ich.
put water in a bag freeze it then place the whole bag in the water this will help keep it cool. You can do the same with an Axilotle and or get a cooling fan.

Though we LOVE seeing your pets please leave them at home on these hot days.

Like cats we find small dogs get the shaft when it comes to most things so we have made it our mission to have a section for those small dogs. We have over 20 toys now geared for your little one.

Did you Know?

Catit Creamy's are like cat crack. Once they understand the offering they go crazy for them. Heck my 2 cats as soon as they hear the package they are there!

But Did you know Creamys not only can be given from the tube (if you are holding the tube) it can be served many different ways?

You can feed it in a dish
You can feed it from the special Creamy spoon
You can serve it on a lick mat
or
You can put it in a silicone ice cube tray and freeze it giving them something cold to enjoy on hot days!!

The Force is strong with us today!!
The water main break isn't affecting us. Thank goodness a store full of critters getting hooked on bottled water would be brutal!!

Could you imagine the hamsters getting all the animals together and taking over the store because they didn't get Smart water and got tap water instead??
Instead of Planet of the Apes, it would be Planet of the Hamsters.

Now that I'm terrified and created an image that non of us here at the store would like.

Did you know?

Did you know it is important to have different shapes and styles of cat furniture and scratchers?

Cats not only sharpen their murder mittens they use them to stretch different muscles too.

Not all cat furniture or cardboard scratchers are created equal. Some are much more sturdy and hold up longer.

Stop in and check out the different options including the ones from Beatris these are catnip infused to encourage your cat to use it instead of your leg, curtains, or couch.
If they still like your couch and use both we have a solution for that too.

It's my 29th year being in business and helping people with their pets!!

I opened my first store Hodgepodge Pets and Supplies back on May 13th, 1995.
During the first 13 years, I worked a full-time job on top of running my store out of my parent's walkout basement.
9 of those years working at a pet store in West Lebanon NH. Driving back and forth each day.
In 2006 I left Lebanon and took 1/2 hiatus. During this time I worked a couple of different jobs as well as maintaining aquariums in businesses.
2007 I changed the name from HodgePodge Pets to AquaRealm Aquarium & Pets and opened a storefront in St. Johnsbury and became completely self-employed.
Of course, I heard I wouldn't make it 6 months, I would never be able to pay myself say anything about having staff. We employ several people now.

Anyone who has a dream but hears negatives, I am a perfect example with hard work, and a mindset of learning you can accomplish almost anything.

17 years now in St. Johnsbury and we are still going strong!

It hasn't always been easy, lots of laughs, blood, sweat, and tears (good and sad) What a ride it has been!!!

We have surpassed being just a pet store. We are a pet store that takes pride in what we do and have built great working relationships with and work with Veterinarians, Animal Control, Fish & Wild Life, Other government agencies, Shelters, Aquariums, etc PLUS as in recent months we have been contacted by pet lovers and breeders all over the country.

Just last week I got a call from someone in Pennsylvania that heard of our reputation and needed help with her fish.

I could have just said Happy 29 years to us, but I'm so thankful and proud of what we have done and continue to do. ( I say we because I have had support from my parents, my wife, past and current staff, and more. )

I want to thank EVERYONE who has supported me in this journey. The support, kind words, and being able to assist a few generations of pet parents has made my heart full.

Betta system #1 is done!

Each segment has just over 3 gallons and they are loving it!! The dividers are a solid black plexiglass so they can't flip the other 9ne off.

It may take a moment of looking to find a betta as they can be anywhere in their temp home.

If you are looking for a betta, but not seeing them right away it's because they are loving life. Feel free to grab someone and we can have them swim towards the front for you to choose.

What does that look like?
Sometimes it is just finding a new home, sometimes it means working with the animal/fish to get them back into shape then find them a new home.

Sometimes we do have handicapped animals/fish that can still live a nice life, but need more TLC.

We work with many Vermont-run programs to help many types of people ranging from disabilities, teaching people new skills, building self-confidence/self-esteem, encouraging shy people to feel more comfortable with people, and we assist no matter the Gender, color, or religion.

We donate to
School events
Sports events
Class trips
Kawainas
Catamount Arts
Groups that are against school bullying, or tragic events that happen to your fellow neighbors

and more.

You will find AquaRealm helps Not just animals but people too.

Most things we work on rehabilitating that has come into our possession we like to do off the sales floor, but sometimes like fish we don't have a spot other than the sales floor, or sometimes the animal responds better out with the public.

So if you ever are in AquaRealm and see a fish that looks rather sad etc know we have received it in rough shape we are working to get it back to health.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the excitement of the new arrivals, we don't always get a picture to show. Here's one of our newest arrivals. The dwarf anchor catfish. It averages out at 1.5" when fully grown. They like slow moving water, a pH range of 5.6 to 7.8, temperature range of 65F to 78F (remember steady temperatures are key), and are super peaceful fish.
How cool are these guys???

Saturday Reveal!!! Unfortunately not everyone felt camera ready. I think I heard something like having a bad hair day. I tell ya the new generation... Samuel L Jackson while filming Iron Man 2 get that MF camera out of my face I'm having a bad hair day. Any who Scarlet Badis and Orange Sunkist Shrimp tank!! They are still settling, but I like thus little almost 1 gallon and it fits nicely on my desk. In response to Govener Scotts business shut down.

There are a lot of things that go on, here in the store. So many things we would love to share with our amazing customers, but sometimes we don't have a camera on hand... Here's one for you. Recorded here in our store, what you see in this video is a shark egg being candled. The large round mass inside is the yolk. The squiggly thing in the egg is the baby shark. This shark will feed off of the yolk for around 6 months and then make its way out of the egg. Let's just take a moment to appreciate how amazing life is.
