Its that time of year ... fleas.
I'm not a vet and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but K9 Advantix II is my goto flea medication. Here is an article from '20 that compared generic alternatives to it based on active ingredient doses. I just got a 4 month supply of Advecta for $20 shipped off Amazon. The last 4 pack of K9 I got was $35.

Here is a link to a study that provides in depth detail about damage done by early spay/neuter in dogs.
The most interesting detail is it completely obliterates the myth that spaying eliminates aggression. "...There was a small but significant increase in the chances of moderate or severe aggression against strangers in all gonadectomised dogs compared with intact dogs, but this effect was entirely driven by data from gonadectomised dogs at 7–12 months of age, who were 26 % more likely to show aggression to strangers..."
Dogs need their body parts to mature and grow properly. Please be responsible and avoid early spaying. It can lead to injuries, increased cancers, and a myriad of undesirable outcomes.

Puppy Recall – a vital command that should get your dog from where it is to you in a fast, straight line.

How to accomplish a great recall: Never use the dogs name as a correction. When the dog hears its name, the only thought it shoud have is something wonderful is about to happen.
Pick a nickname for corrections – puppy no, puppy off, puppy leave it, puppy stop. If only positive interactions are associated with the name, you will get much better recall results.

New puppy/dog series, update 2: Keeping the pup comfortable in the crate.
Puppies and dogs introduced into new surroundings like to tear things up to pacify themselves during idol times. Bedding rarely lasts in a crate.
We have alleviated this issue in wire crates by placing a cutting and placing a camping pad, that can be obtained at your favorite retailer, under the tray. This provides the animal cushion, from the flooring and wore bottom, while protecting the pad from destruction.
In the photos below, you can see the blue cushion under the black tray, the cut cushion with the tray removes, and an example of the camping pad we used.

Crate training: Crate training is a vital piece of not only housebreaking your dog, but ensuring it is comfortable in a confined space required by an extended vet stay, unplanned boarding event, or just to have a safe quiet space.
We found this wire crate on marketplace for $15. I prefer wire crates because they facilitate better ventilation, but that is just my preference.
While you cannot see it because dummy is laying on it, we leave a king toy in the crate to alleviate boredom.
The general rule for crate training is 2 hours in, IMMEDIATELY go outside and get grass underfoot, give over the top praise when they relieve themselves, and give an our out of the crate engaged in play/training. Our experience with this animal is p**p happens 4 hours after eating … your experience will vary.
If you use the hour out of the crate wisely and utilize the full hour in play, as much as puppies sleep, they will be resting for the next two hours in.
Its important that you listen to puppy during their time in crate, especially overnight. If they get persistently restless and make lots of noise, listen to them, and give them a trip outside.
We take away water at 8pm, and last trip outside/bedtime is 10pm, but we listen and let them out if they act like they need it.
Using this method, you are in control of the puppy and its access to food, water, and freedom. If there is an accident in the crate, that is on you, not it. Do not punish the dog for accidents. Let it out, praise when it goes on the grass, then clean up the mess, quietly, without making a big deal over it. It is a e oz puddle of fluid to clean, nothing for a big, bad human to get mad about.

Gunny is one of our proudest success stories. He successfully completed our board and train program, went home to his owners well behaved and ready for fun.

The annual Rabies Vaccination Clinics are back this spring beginning Monday, May 6, from 6-8pm. Did you know all dogs and cats over 3-months-of-age are required to be vaccinated against rabies and registered with the city? Local veterinarians volunteer their time to administer the vaccines. Animal Control and Rescue staff will issue city registration tags, administer microchips, and provide dog park registrations. Payments must be made with cash or check. Primary goal: stay inside the fence until released Secondary goal: lay down until released. For a young puppy, I am impressed by Toffee’s obedience when it comes to achieving the primary goal if staying inside the open gate until released. Even as a young, excitable pup, she did pretty good with the secondary goal. Do you need help controlling your dog at open doors and gates, and building a successful relationship with them? Default condition: Free and off leash. Toffee, a lesson client, is spending a few days with me as her owners travel. I couldn’t be more impressed with the success her owner achieved with her off-leash obedience. The entire time she has been with me, the only on-leash time she has had is in public areas when people are within sight. Her recall is bulletproof. Bear and his owner have embraced our training training program and made unprecedented progress. I have the best clients! After only 4 sessions, I showed up to our meeting place, and there sat Bear and his handler waiting for me, off leash. We spent our 5th session conducting an off leash walk with distractions, and they did incredible. If you train handler focus and solid recalls under distraction, you will never have to worry about your dog pulling on a leash. This is Camo. He wanted to bite my face off when we first met. After about 15 minutes, we had him calmed down, I grabbed his leash and we went for a walk. Your dog needs a pack leader, please don't anthropomorphize it. It is not a fur baby. It does not feel sorry or guilty for doing wrong, it reads your body language and reacts to the stress hormones you produce after you catch it miss behaving. If a leadership vacuum exists in your relationship with your dog, it will fill the role. We can help you adjust the unhealthy relationship you have with your dog, if you are willing to put in the work.

We accomplish both of these objectives by creating an environment of consistency and trust, allowing the dog to make conscious choices, rewarding desired behavior and correcting undesired/disobedient behavior. Once this foundation is laid, the dog truly understands what is expected of it, and will volunteer desired behavior, because it understands the boundaries you have created in your relationship. Once you can open the gate and the dog stays in the yard until released, you are well on your way to accomplishing this. Training is not a singular undertaking, but the relationship you build and live with your dog every day.
