Dreamin' Rupert Is 👀 To Hop

Proven buck of large litters. 4 litters average size 10.
DOB: 03/14/2024, 7.3 pounds.
Rupert is either broken black or broken blue.
He carries dilute and chocolate.
Rupert earned BOSB for a leg as a junior.

Pros: great fur, good type, proven, carries chocolate, produces large babies with my large does.
Cons: small, produces white scattered hairs in some of the offspring and some with no color in the whisker-bed. Some of his offspring have attitudes.

Even with all the cons, I have nice show quality grow outs from each of his litters. You just have to cull hard.

I am replacing him with his son Bella Rose Rewbun.

My First Red Pair, Rosie & Charlee

After looking across the states last spring for some nice reds, I gave up. They are nearly impossible to find. Low and behold, my September litters brought me a pleasant surprise. Lots of red!

While they are not excellent, they are good and a start to my red breeding program. Both have some s**t and white bellies but I have been told by long time red breeders that they are a hard variety to perfect. It's a start.
I also have a red doe in Hershey's litter that I will most likely keep.

Rosie got good comments at the show in November at just 2 months old.
Charlee did okay, but he is lacking in the shoulders. He has an amazing buck face!
I will be taking both to the Kennewick show in March.

I love their size. Both were born the first week of September so they are still under 4 months. Rosie weighs 7.10 and Charlee 7.3.
Charlee looks small, but he is a rock.

Here is a sneak peek of my 10-11 week old grow-outs. I will be evaluating next week. Posed photos soon of the ones who get a hopper pass.
I know that the chocolates are not great quality but the doe kept photo bombing.

Saying Good-bye
Processing rabbits is never an easy task for me. Today I had to finish out the job with a mercy cull for my mega-colon doe. She was so ready and probably thankful that I finally mustered up the strength to do it. She snuggled into me for several minutes. I told her I was sorry and thanked her for being such a great rabbit.
RIP my beautiful Gerbera.

Bella Rose Kishon Hopped

My beautiful Kishon headed to Utah today. She is one of several that headed to her new home on transport. This has been one of my difficult soft culls. Such a sweet girl. When I would open her cage door she would climb half way out to greet me. I know she is heading to a loving home that will spoil her as I did so that makes it a bit easier.

This is a great example of why you want quality breeders in your barn.
I am constantly breeding better. Most of my stock rotates out often as I strive to breed bigger quality rabbits.
Keep the best and eat the rest!

Why GENETICS 🧬 matter.

The one on the left was 2.5 weeks OLDER than the right. Same buck to 2 different does.

Needles to say the doe with the smaller litter will not be rebred.

Flower's Nest Box

A couple of people have asked about her box.
It is constructed out of scrap 1/2" plywood. The bottom is wire which I cover with a piece of cardboard before adding nesting material. In cold weather, I also put a layer of hay/straw under the box to eliminate any draft.

Box measures 11 1/2" X 15 1/2" X 11".
The front has two pieces. The bottom piece is 3" and the top 2" piece slants in to serve as a baby scraper. The top piece is secured with screws. I remove it when kits are about 2 weeks old so they can easily jump in and out of the box.

🎵Oooh, Raven Babies 🎵

I am so excited to welcome Raven's first litter to the Bella Rose barn.

Bella Rose Raven X Dreamin' Rupert have 10 beautiful babies. Raven did inherit the REW (c) gene from her Dam Treasure. There are 5 REW in the litter. This litter is all self and all 4 colors are possible. So the REWs could be black, blue, chocolate or lilac and solid or broken. Raven built a great tunnel nest with plenty of fur.

I will be growing them all out to 12 weeks and the best of the litter will accompany me to the March 15 show in Kennewick. I am hoping that at least a few of them grow out as nice as their mama.
