Spotted her again
We spotted her again, going towards the feed barn this time. This is so much better than the Where is Waldo games. So much better looking too. We love when the wildlife come to visit and end up hanging out awhile.
Hopefully we find you all safe and warm during this super cold period.
When the weather starts to turn bad, but the to do list didn't get the memo to pause for bad weather, this is what we do. Take the rotten wood and make a fire to clean up the garbage wood. Doubles as a spot to warm up our hands as we keep working. We are expecting a big snow storm tonight, so we are rushing to make sure everything is buttoned down for the night and nobody will start to wander in the snow. We have been working on another animal pen for when we have to separate some from their original flock or herd. Lots to do, and we are trying to get it all done before we are up to our knees in snow.
Stay warm everyone, and make sure you bring in a couple extra pieces of firewood for the night, I know we will.
Hay Bale Fun
Enjoying the little things in life. Watching him run the bales made us laugh and remember our younger days. When we could just play and not really have a worry in the world, but to just run and play on the weekends.
This was right before we did sheep the other day, as we're double checking waters with the cold tempatures and creating a catch pen to move the flocks into. Freezing water is always a big concern since all animals need access to water to aide in digestion and to keep properly hydrated. With many of the animals with new babies or pregnant we do a lot of water checks in the winter to make sure everything is thawed. Some of the waters are too far away to have electricity ran so we have to break the ice and run hoses to them. Raechel was running hoses and refilling as she broke the ice. Her dogs decided they needed to come play so that is what they did. They snuck out of the yard when her youngest came out to see what was going on. Aaron was moving panels and caught this cute little game. Jim was down talking to Raechel and checking animals, he had just spotted a cow that snuck into the wrong pasture.
We apologize if the posts might be a little less this week and possibly next week. We have been very worried about Momma Von, since she has been in the hospital Friday and this weekend. She did manage to be released last night and finally came back home. But due to the worry, we have been less focused on taking pictures and more on trying to be with her as much as possible around normal duties at the Ranch. We are so glad that she is back home, and we ask for your understanding about updates being a little more spaced out.
This was from last weekend when the kids and Raechel were up here. The dogs love to help with chores and run around in the mornings. The German Shepard has way too much energy and just can't contain herself when she sees a chance to jump over Sadie, who was itching her back on the hose. As you can see, a gate does not stop Buddy from exploring. Luckily he stays closer to us so the cows don't get him, they do not appreciate strange dogs in their pasture. The sheep are curious, but he did get headbutted by a mom for trying to walk by a baby. The pigs are another story when it comes to Buddy, is isn't scared of them!! He corrected one of the sows for smelling him too long when Raechel didn't realize he was in the pen with her. The sow ran off like he told her "she was going to be bacon if she didn't stop smelling him," then he got in trouble for sneaking into the pigs' pen, again. The bulldog could care less, she just likes to explore and smell/sample the "presents" left by the other animals. So happy all the dogs get along, blending 2 houses of dogs is not always easy, but we manage to do it every time they come up.
Raechel got a chance to stop by during the week, a rare occurrence as her job keeps her pretty busy. Pretty sure she couldn't take not seeing the new babies and giving them their cuddles. She got to snuggle a couple of baby pigs but we are going to make you wait for those adorable pictures. We wanted to announce the names for the newest lambs. Please say hello to our newest twin girls DewDrop, the solid white, and MoonBeam, the black and white. Hope you enjoy them as much as we are.
