We have offered these services to taxidermists across the U.S. My father (Tom Fortman) started nationally advertising our business back in 1961 doing it as a hobby and working full-time. A few years later he went into it full-time and specialized in making rugs for customers along with all other phases of taxidermy. Then in 1980, when I graduated high school, I went into the business full-time als
o. We very much grew the business along with the bear rug business when we were doing roughly upwards to 800 bear per year. My name is Todd Fortman. I am owner/operator of Fortman's Taxidermy & Tannery, LLC. My father, Tom, still works here and helps run the tannery side of the business along with my sister, Lisa Leiber. We offer full-time/full-service taxidermy and tanning business. We do everything from rugs both large and small, deer shoulder mounts, along with big game mounts, lifesize mounts, as well as service for fish and birds. We do tan all of our hides for mounts and use no-dry perservatives or cream/paste tans. If just wanting a hide as a wall hanger, we can do that for you also. We have our own in-house commercial tannery to better be able to control tanning time to get the mounts out more quickly, not a home tan service. No need to take to another taxidermist and then they ship your hide/cape out to someone to get anned. Our time of services changes with the season as well as the type of animal and mount. We run from 6 weeks to 6 months on average on fur animals with certain time getting to 8 months. On fish and birds we will run 6-12 months on average. We do a large volume of mail order work which is welcome. We offer both wholesale for taxidermists and reail services. We also accept either fresh, frozen, or salted skins.
