A good reminder:
It takes time and a lot of effort to help a dog become a reliable athlete, AND you are a team. Have fun! Everything is not a competition, remember you’re your dog’s whole world and they’re just happy to be with you, doing what they love. Don’t fret, enjoy the moment. Pick goals that are realistic for you and your dog.💕

Some dogs are definitely naturals, but all dogs have to work on something…

Directional commands, consistent pulling, on-by to distractions, endurance, lining out, speed, solo vs multi-dogs. 🌟

For humans- 🌱 Our own fitness, patience, time bonding with our new dogs, listening to our dogs especially when it comes to medical care and wellbeing, practicing different scenarios on the trail and in everyday life, learning from others with more experience, and so many more little things to make the whole team successful.

Lots of new dogs on the team this year and it’s fun to see them progress and it gives me joy remembering this is all new for them! Half haven’t even been dogsledding on snow!
For the older dogs, they know what they’re doing and they’re teaching the new dogs too. I get sentimental when I start wondering how many seasons they’ll have left, and incredibly proud of how far they’ve come. I updated the dog’s profiles today on the website, and it turns out I’ve also grown a lot in the last few years…. Time flies! So much effort goes into the team, but it’s so worth it. ❤️ 🐕 🐕

Redpaw's Dirty Dog Dryland Race recap: Sorry it took so long!

Overall if you’ve never competed in a race, go to this one! So many kind volunteers, great food, fun course, and always fun in the mud. Thank you so much Jamie Perry and crew for hosting a supremely awesome dryland each year.

We raced 4 dog rig again and Sucheth raced 2 dog bike!

Day 1: 3 dogs instead of 4 because Friday tore a paw pad earlier in the week playing fetch.
Dogs did awesome but I could tell they were a bit tired from the last 4 weeks of travel. I also flipped the rig on myself just because I leaned weird thinking I should adjust the snub line at that moment 😂 and got some wicked bruises which cost us a few seconds. Pretty sure I bruised a rib because I still can’t breathe deeply yet. Overall placed 11th day 1 on rig. Sucheth had a clean run with grumbles and Sirius.

Day 2: Dogs and I did better and we snagged 10th place in our class! 11/27 in 4 dog rig.
Sucheth and the dogs ran a little slower on day 2 with the rain. Still a clean run. Sirius is showing us that he only feels like pulling sometimes, and mostly wants to play keep away with toys and cause mischief instead. Probably retiring him this year or next.

Also got to help our friends Gabbi Sparby Renee, and Abby Heistad! They all did great! Thanks for the pics Rich Besler

Last race of the season and top 10 each race for 4 dog rig feels amazing. Can’t ask for much more. Dogs killed it, and we’re excited to get into longer distances for our winter sled races! Beargrease 40 and wolftrack 30 this year for sure.

Newest Jack and the Pack addition: Zorro

Zorro is primarily ‘s dog for bikejoring next year and he’ll also be added to my sled team in the late fall/winter 2025-2026.

He’s very much like his Uncle Payne but also related to his cousin Grumbles!

He’s a cool dude, and he’ll keep us busy with his shenanigans over the next few months.

Excited to represent Team USA this weekend!

Lots of incredible athletes, humans and dogs, some traveling as far as Canada/Alaska. There’s sure to be some intense competition. We’ll do our best and aim for a clean run, dogs will have a blast as always.

Passing Practice Class

Had a great time hosting a passing practice class today! We went over a few skills that might be beneficial for passing teams, dogs, distractions on the trail, and then started with canicross then Bikejoring as we gained confidence. Dogs did awesome, it was interesting to see what potential caused distractions and what they went by without issues. Great time to try head on passing and side by side passing. A few yearlings so they were pretty green. We also shared feedback and talked through out to see if there was anything that might help each other more in the moment. Very pleased with how the class went, seemed like a positive experience for the dogs and owners, and if we can help our team by recovering quickly from distractions that will help us out in the trails and in races! Friday did escape her harness once and was unintended off leash dog for a few seconds so that was exciting too… but we recovered quickly and joined the run again. Any musher that tells you they know everything or that they’re perfect is a red flag, it’s okay for us as drivers and our dogs to make mistakes, it’s just how we handle the situation and move forward that matter. Maybe we need better preparation, or maybe it was a situation that’s out of our control, but we always have a choice and safety and fun are my top priority. This felt like a safe space to try out new ideas and fail, and I think we all learned and grew.
