What’s up aquarists?

I greatly miss Tamed Waters customers, followers and fans. I never thought I’d have to close down such a successful and iconic store but the previous landlords were terrible. Unfortunately I am currently still in an unfair and unjust legal battle with these folks.

I just wanted to reach out to the Tamed Waters customer base and say you are all dearly missed. Hoping to open a bigger and better Tamed Waters again one day. For now I am a full time hobbyist again supporting other local fish stores and hobbyists. Hope to see you all soon.

Help me clear the last few tanks. I have to be out in 24 hours.

Took home 4x 75 gallon tanks and I’m thoroughly enjoying being just a hobbyist again! I set these drilled tanks up like normal fish tanks with sponge filters. If you want to use drilled tanks like a normal aquarium you just have the stand pipe go above the water level or put a plug in the bulkhead.

Come help me clear these out today and tomorrow. Great prices! $1 per gallon on bigger tanks (I paid far more). Let’s do buy one at $1 per gallon get one free on 20 gallons tanks! Message us if interested!

Who is down to celebrate the last 6 years of Tamed Waters with me?

It’s short notice but I’m hoping most of you will consider making it out for a drink with me! Being a nurse and store owner, I often did not have the time to meet up with customers outside of the shop.

Let’s change that! It will be awesome to get together outside of the shop while supporting another small business.

When: Tomorrow September 22nd 6pm-8pm
Where: Bent Brewstillery in Roseville, MN.
Available: They have craft beer, craft mixed drinks, THC seltzers, and plenty of non alcoholic drinks(kombucha, local soda, nitro coffee, etc)
Who: YOU! I am hoping to see many familiar faces I have met over the years including the many from Wisconsin, Iowa, Dakotas etc.

Hard to write this post but today is possibly the last day Tamed Waters will ever be open as a retail fish store.

As most of you know I have been a long term fish keeper and breeder. This hobby is my absolute biggest passion. I am not sure what I would do with out it. Over the years I’ve met so many wonderful hobbyists and customers. Each and every one of you means the world to me. The support has been tremendous since day one. I want to thank all of my wonderful employees and customers over the last 6+ years. You all helped us become the nationally known store we are today.

Made the decision that this will be our last weekend open until we can find a new space. There is a possibility we will never re-open if we do not find the ideal space.

How cool are these?

Sybranchus Marmoratus often called the Marbled Swamp Eel is quite the neat fish to add to your collection. Don’t mistake them for Asian Swamp Eels that are invasive in Florida.

The Marbled Swamp Eels we have in stock were caught in Peru. They inhabit slow and shallow tributaries across South America. In the wild they scavenge the sandy bottom primarily for tadpoles, decaying fish, and insects/spiders. In the hobby, we have them in eating sinking pellets and all sorts of frozen foods. Unlike some eels in the hobby, this species is known to be quite peaceful if kept well fed.

Fascinating enough, some are born males (primary males) and some females that later convert their s*x to males making them secondary males in a phenomenon called sequential hermaphroditism. This species can tolerate poor water conditions (not recommending) and can breath atmospheric air making them quite easy to take care of.

What a fun classroom pet this would be! Just make sure you have a large tank as they get quite large.

Take advantage of the 25% off sale we have going on for Labor Day this weekend. This is one of those fish in the hobby that can be pretty easily bred but is quite profitable when it comes to selling the offspring.

L397 also known as the Alenquer Tiger Pleco is certainly one of the most striking plecos in the hobby! Reaching roughly 4 inches, this is the ideal pleco for many hobbyists that need a show piece pleco or those working with a smaller fishroom! In the wild they are found in the fast flowing Amazon river in Brazil. Being a pleco from the panaqolus family, they need driftwood in their diet for digestion. Primarily eating a vegetarian diet, we have also fed them animal protein pellets which they eagerly took down.

Dario sp Myanmar also known as the Black Tiger Dario, is one of the coolest nano fish available in our freshwater hobby. Maxing out at under 1.5 inches, this tiny fish can be easily housed by any aquariast. In the wild, this micro predator hunts tiny freshwater crustaceans, invertebrate, worms and any other small live foods. In the hobby, they will take cut up blackworms, bloodworms, daphnia and can be trained to eat some small pellets.

Exciting fish! Pseudograstromyzon laticeps also known as the Purple Fin Hillstream Loach is a absolutely stunning bottom dweller. These guys are hard to come by in the hobby! They come from clean freshwater streams in Southeastern China. These streams grow tons of algae, Cyanobacteria and biofilm on the rock bottom so these guys are able to constantly graze on food. They also will take down small aquatic invertebrates. In the hobby, make sure to have a well seasoned tank. They will feed on frozen daphnia and we even have them feeding on sinking pellets.
