Canine influenza outbreaks affecting Twin Cities:

Over the past several days, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in respiratory infections in dogs at our local shelters. This highly contagious infection has spread throughout the canine population at three of our Animal Humane Society shelters. With the guidance of the Board of Animal Health, AHS has decided to temporarily close Golden Valley, C**n Rapids, and Woodbury adoption centers.

Ensure your dog remains safe from contagious canine influenza by keeping them up to date on their vaccines. If you suspect your pet is infected, isolate them from other dogs inside and outside of your household.

Contact your VCA veterinarian if your dog develops any signs or symptoms.

2. Build a separate emergency kit for your pets
3. Make sure and keep digital records and/or pictures to identify your pet after a disaster in case you become separated
