Remember: if you’re hot, so are they! Pocket pets basically have a winter jacket on full time with their fur coat, so remember these precious little ones as you too are trying to beat this crazy weather. Extra water bottles and bowls can encourage them to stay hydrated, or munching on a special treat can active their saliva glands, also encouraging extra hydration. Hamsters, for instance, often love watermelon. But did you know that citrus fruits are actually poisonous to them? Whereas Guinea pigs need an extra Vitamin C boost for their immune system, just like us!
Check out the care guides on our website for some delicious, safe treats and more, based on the species you have. https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/care-guides
Video Discription: A dwarf hamster munching on a large piece of watermelon. The watermelon was removed post-video to be cut into a better size and consumed more at a later time.

Hot Cocoa, Mitzy, and Tadpole—What a trio! These sweet girls are the best of friends and love snacking on cilantro and leafy greens, snuggling in their fleece, and chewing cardboard. Tadpole & Hot Cocoa made their way back to MNPPR along with their new friend Mitzy when their family was no longer able to provide proper care. It is Christmas in June for Bubba. He got the toy he always wanted, a toilet paper tube! This is Bubba who was adopted from MNPPR (along with his brother and bestie Forrest) in 2021! His family sent us this silly video. Nothing makes a piggie happier than a toy they can throw around and chew.

Chelsey Pearl Zorn, sent in the antics of their hamster Domino.
"Domino, just put away the stash, and was all ready to soundly go back to bed.. well, he was too sleepy and annoyed (rightfully so) to come out willingly for the medication, so mom had to go digging. And this messed up his bed.. now Domino is the picture perfect hamster. He doesn’t fuss, he loves being included, he thinks every piece of fruit of veggie you give him is a gift from the heavens, and he’s never bitten anyone. Just a wonderful boy. Right up until you mess with his bed. Oh man. This dude gets so fussy trying to put bedding back, stops for a snack break, and then marks his territory for good measure."
Success Story Sunday! This week, we received this video and success story about one of our recently adopted hamsters.
"Allie adopted Honey Cake, and she’s settling in nicely! 🐹 She loves her new toy!"

Today is Taco Tuesday! And what goes better with tacos than some Hot Sauce and Guacamole? The Guinea pigs, I mean. These energetic little guys are endlessly friendly and inquisitive. They are looking for their forever home. Don't worry; they would love to share tacos with you! Except guinea pig tacos are full of hay, greens, and bell peppers.
Hot Sauce has a cataract in his left eye, and some surface level spots on both eyes, so his vision is limited. These things do not cause him discomfort, and he gets around pretty well despite having less-than-ideal vision. Due to his reduce vision, Hot Sauce is sometimes easily startled. His foster like to rub my fingers together in front of him so he can tell that they are near him without scaring him. He is a sweet little guy, and the loudest wheeker they've have ever met! His bonded cage mate, Guacamole, sometimes picks on him by stealing his treats (often right out of his mouth) or pushing him out of a shared food bowl. Using two separate food bowls helps with this a lot.

Success Story Sunday: Chelsey Zorn, one of our wonderful adopters, sent a video of her hamster Domino. According to Chelsey, "He was quickly “rescued” after this, but I had a friend coming over, and Domino wanted to greet her. While we were waiting, he started climbing the stairs and went too high. He wanted to get back down to Mom and didn’t want to keep climbing. Domino is truly one of a kind, and I’m so lucky to have him in my life." Chelsey assures me Domino was closely supervised during his whole adventure and loved this chance to explore new spaces, even if sometimes the world is a little bigger than he expects.
Congratulations to Sandwich and Shortbread! This pair of rat buddies found their forever home! May they have countless start treats and lots of adventures.
