Goodbye for Now, Jeffrey Lynn 💔
This post has been incredibly difficult to write, and even now, I struggle to find the right words. Nothing I say could ever truly capture the magnitude of loss our family feels or the incredible life of my beloved dog, Jeffrey.
On November 24th, 2024, I faced one of the hardest days of my life. I had to say goodbye to Jeffrey Lynn, my most precious companion, after 14 unforgettable years together. Jeffrey wasn’t just a dog; he was family, a teacher, and a once-in-a-lifetime soul.
Jeffrey came into my life when I was 21 years old, just finishing dog training school and preparing to start my career. He was my first Chinese Crested and the first dog I adopted as an adult. At that time, our family included my Chocolate Labrador, Bailey (whom Jeffrey lovingly called “Mama”), and our sweet kitty.
Jeffrey was so much more than a pet—he was my partner in life and work. He went through rigorous training with me and helped me train hundreds of dogs in those early years. He was a Certified Canine Good Citizen and a trick dog champion. As my demonstration dog, Jeffrey impressed clients with his charm, good looks, and skills. Truthfully, he made me look better than I actually was.
He helped me build UB Haven (originally called Sit Happens) in 2013, and his likeness even inspired the UB Haven logo. Together, we weathered life’s challenges and joys—moving homes, breakups, earning my degree, traveling, making and losing friends, and eventually saying hello and goodbye to other beloved pets.
Jeffrey was ball-obsessed, a tireless swimmer, and an enthusiastic (if unsuccessful) squirrel hunter. He had a heart as big as his oversized frame—twice the size of the average Chinese Crested—and he loved fiercely and loyally. He was the best big brother to our other pets, an incredible teacher to the dogs he worked with, and my most devoted companion. (Continued in comments…)
