Even the most talented people in the world need to prepare for their performances.
When it comes to dog training, practice with repetition is your friend!
Think of your training sessions as your dress rehearsal and your real life experiences as your performance.
First, we must teach our dogs what it is we want them to do. Then, practice these skills with them in order to succeed in real life!
You, the dog guardian, must also practice in order to react appropriately in sticky situations! A big part of dog training is re-training the human brain when it comes to how we respond in moments of panic and frustration.
Simulating real life scenarios helps strengthen human-animal communication, increase trust, and prepare both you and your dog for anything the world has to throw at you!

Don’t be fooled. Even with being a GSD aka a working breed, Dunkel experiences anxiety, therefore he was resistant to training at first.

At UBH, we use a blanket to implement permission based training. This process helps buy dogs into the training process when they may be suspicious. Using a blanket helps to target training to a specific area. When we approach the blanket and a dog joins us, they are giving us their permission to train them. When a dog leaves the blanket, they are communicating to us that they need a break and do not want to continue training in that moment in time. The goal is to initiate a break and walk away from the blanket before the dog does!

Dunkel had an amazing muzzle training session today. During our play breaks Dunkel continued to gravitate back to the blanket, signaling he wanted to train more!

Agility training can be an exciting and useful way to engage with your dog.
Our dogfessionals work hard to assist in training our four legged students to focus on their humans in the presence of other dogs. It is essential that we provide balance for our dogfessionals throughout their work days! Instead of only focusing on obedience training, we must incorporate play breaks, naps, walks and mental enrichment into their days as well!
