A bread salad isn't just a salad with bread thrown in - it's a bread salad that's enhanced by vegetables. While many folks think of Tuscan panzanella when they hear "bread salad," these hearty dishes pop up all over the Mediterranean, each region making it their own. Our St. Pete version celebrates two local favorites: Our beautifully tender Rainbow Swiss Chard and Sunshine Sourdough's Asiago loaf.
🍞🌈🥬 Let's make this colorful, savory, sweet, chewy & crunchy "bread salad"

Ingredients:
- 2-3 slices of Sunshine Sourdough Asiago bread, torn into rustic chunks (don't be shy - bread's the star here!)
- 1 bunch Brick Street Farms rainbow Swiss chard, stems separated and chopped, and leaves torn
- 1/3 cup olive oil (plus extra for toasting bread)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 shallot, thinly sliced
- 1/3 cup toasted pecans, roughly chopped (optional)
- 1/4 cup crumbled goat cheese
- Sliced pear or apple
- Salt and fresh cracked pepper to taste

Toss those torn sourdough bread chunks with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toast at 375°F until golden-edged but still chewy inside, about 8-12 minutes.

While the bread's doing its thing, chop those colorful chard stems and tear the leaves into bite-sized pieces.

Whisk together olive oil, maple syrup, and apple cider vinegar to make a fall vinaigrette.

In a large bowl, combine the warm bread (yes, warm!), chard, shallots, and pecans. Pour that vinaigrette all over and toss gently.

Finish with crumbled goat cheese and serve while the bread's still got some warmth to it.

This salad is our local spin on a Mediterranean classic - where bread isn't just a garnish, but the heart of the dish. It's rustic, comforting, and just what these early fall evenings call for!

Don't let their size fool you - micro broccoli packs a serious nutritional punch 🌱These miniature greens can contain up to 40 times more nutrients than their full-grown counterparts. Here's what makes them special:

🌱Sulforaphane Superstar: This compound, found in high concentrations in micro broccoli, has been linked to cancer prevention, reduced inflammation, and improved heart health!
🌱Vitamin Bonanza: They're loaded with vitamins A, B, C, E, and K.
🌱Mineral Rich: Excellent source of calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, and zinc.
🌱And the best part? All this goodness comes in a crisp, delicate package that's a delight to eat.

🐶Good news for our furry friends - micro broccoli is generally safe for dogs when given in moderation. It's a great way to boost your pet's nutrient intake, but as always, check with your vet before making any major changes to their diet.

Here are some simple ideas to incorporate these magical micros into your meals:
🍳Top your morning eggs or avocado toast
🥪Add to sandwiches and wraps for a nutrient boost
🧋Blend into smoothies (pro tip: freeze for later use!)
🍕Garnish soups and pizzas for a fresh touch
🍝Mix into pesto for a nutrient-packed pasta sauce
🥗Add them to your salads!
🍲Trow a big hand full on your leftovers and drizzle with salt and olive oil!

Remember, our micro broccoli is:
💧Grown hydroponically in upcycled shipping containers
📍Hyper-local and sustainable
❌Pesticide-free
🍴No need to wash - it's ready to eat straight from the package!

By choosing Brick Street Farm's micro broccoli, you're not just making a healthy choice - you're supporting local, sustainable agriculture. It's a win-win!

We understand that many of you are in hurricane preparation mode, and our hearts go out to those already affected by Helene who now face the daunting task of preparing for another potentially dangerous storm.

Please know that our thoughts are with you during this challenging time. We urge everyone to prioritize safety and take all necessary precautions. As fellow members of this community, we too are securing our farm against potential impact. We'll provide updates to our followers once the hurricane has passed. Our fantastic St. Pete community is in our thoughts. Please stay safe, and take care of yourselves and each other.

Please note, Brick Street Farms will be closed starting at 3pm on Tuesday as well as Wednesday. As of now, we plan to open again on Thursday, but we will finalize our decision after the storm 💕

Fattoush is a popular Levantine salad with roots in Middle Eastern cuisine, particularly Lebanon and Syria. Its name comes from the Arabic word “fatt,” meaning “crush” or “crumble,” referring to the broken pita bread that gives the salad its signature crunch.

This dish was born from resourcefulness, using stale bread that might otherwise go to waste. It’s traditionally enjoyed in summer when fresh vegetables are plentiful.

Our Brick Street Farms version puts a local spin on this time-honored dish, blending Middle Eastern tradition with our farm-fresh St. Pete greens 🥗🥬

Ingredients:
- Brick Street Farms Romaine
- Brick Street Farms chopped Micro Dill
- Parsley
- Radicchio
- Red Onion
- Cucumber
- Chickpeas
- Tomatoes
- Pita chips or toasted pita bread
- Olive Oil
- Balsamic
- Fresh lemon
- Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper

Chop all of the ingredients and toss in a big bowl! Enjoy.

Hey y’all 👋🏻 we wanted to post a correction to yesterday’s post about the city water. The info shared in the second photo turned out to be false, and was not in fact from Pinellas.gov, we apologize for any confusion and will make sure to double check our sources before posting! The water in Pinellas still meets safety regulations and is safe to drink. Thank you to our followers for pointing this out! We DO NOT want to spread false information on our page and will be more diligent moving forward 🫡💕

Either way, we wanted to share the details behind OUR water filtration system, and encourage our members to stock up ahead of the hurricane. Read all about our water system below! 💦🌀

Our water fill station provides high-quality, remineralized water through a multi-step filtration process:

1. Sterilization: Source water is treated with chlorine and UV light to eliminate microorganisms.
2. Carbon filtration: Removes chlorine and chloramine.
3. Water softening: Removes calcium and magnesium for better mineral control.
4. Reverse Osmosis (RO): Eliminates remaining impurities like sodium, metals, and other contaminants.
5. Remineralization: RO water passes through a calcite filter to add essential minerals and stabilize pH.

This process ensures clean, balanced, and slightly alkaline water that’s ideal for drinking. The final product has a stable pH and beneficial mineral content, unlike pure RO water which can be slightly acidic and mineral-deficient.

Microgreens aren't just a pretty garnish - they're a nutritional powerhouse packed into tiny leaves. Here's why our locally grown micros deserve a place on your plate:

Nutrient Density: Microgreens can contain up to 40 times more vitamins and minerals than their mature counterparts. They're especially rich in vitamins C, E, and K, along with beta-carotene. This means better immune function, healthier skin, and sharper vision.

Brain Health: The high concentration of antioxidants in microgreens helps combat oxidative stress, supporting cognitive function and potentially slowing age-related mental decline. Studies show they may even improve memory and focus!

Fitness Friend: Packed with essential amino acids and phytonutrients, microgreens can aid in muscle recovery and heart health.

Natural Detoxifier: Thanks to their high chlorophyll content, microgreens support your body's natural detoxification processes, helping to flush out toxins and heavy metals.

Blood Sugar Support: Certain microgreens like broccoli are rich in chromium, a mineral that can help regulate blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity. This makes them a great choice for those managing diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Why our micros stand out:

We're not just any microgreen grower. As an urban vertical hydroponic farm located near downtown St. Pete, Brick Street Farms has reimagined local agriculture.

Truly Local: Our greens are grown just miles away, inside repurposed shipping containers. This isn't just sustainable - it means unbeatable freshness for you. We also have the largest microgreen selection in all of Tampa Bay.

Ultra-Fresh Guarantee: From our farm to your fork in hours, not days. We harvest, package, and deliver our greens at peak freshness, locking in maximum flavor and nutrition.

Pure and Clean: Grown in a controlled environment without pesticides or soil, our microgreens are as clean as they come. Just pure, vibrant nutrition.

Did you know that we use two distinct hydroponic systems to grow our greens? One is called NFT(Nutrient Film Technique) and the other is called Flood and Drain. Flood and drain ensures that the plants get nutrient water 1-2 times and day. NFT, however, has water constantly flowing over the roots, providing the leafy greens with a consistent source of nutrients during the growing process.

We use Flood and Drain for our micro greens and to germinate the plugs for leafy greens, while we use the NFT technique to grow our leafy greens until they're ready to harvest! 🌱🥬💦
