Meet Drifter!

Drifter is a 4-month-old mixed-breed pup who was found abandoned at a church with his brother. Despite his tough start, Drifter is full of love, energy, and hope. He’s a playful, sweet, and loyal little guy who’s ready to find his forever family and start a brand-new chapter in life.

Drifter is part of a group of dogs who often face a tougher road to adoption due to "Black Dog Syndrome," a bias that makes black dogs harder to adopt. Being a black, pit bull mix adds to the challenge, but we know someone special out there will look past these labels and see the incredible pup Drifter truly is. He’s just a puppy with so much love to give and his whole life ahead of him.

Drifter is up for adoption through Empire Animal Rescue Society Inc. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will stick by your side through thick and thin, Drifter could be the one for you. Don’t let his color or breed hold you back—this little guy is ready to brighten your days and steal your heart!

Could you be the hero Drifter is waiting for? Contact us today to learn more about adopting this amazing boy and giving him the loving home he deserves!

Hickory is SPONSORED this month thanks to Bobbi Jo Kent! He's a wonderful puppy 🐶 Check him out!

February is the month of LOVE....Let's show Hickory some LOVE this month and find him a home of his own. ❤

Hickory is one of longest residents and has grown up in rescue. Although he is well taken care of and all his needs are met, it's not the same as having his very own furever home.

Hickory is an 8 month old hound mix. His foster mom describes him as a short meatball of a dog that is happier being lazy than running around. He is good in a crate and is content to chew on a toy. He does well with other dogs and cats and loves meeting new people.

If Hickory sounds like a perfect fit, head over to empirerescue.org and fill out the application. Through the month of February, yours truly will be sponsoring his adoption fee.

🌸 Meet Skye Elizabeth! 🌸

This sweet, shy little girl was born on August 26, 2024, into a family that didn’t want her. Like many others, she was posted as “free” on Facebook. 😔 But now, Skye is safe with Empire Animal Rescue Society Inc and ready to find the loving forever home she truly deserves! 🏡💕

Here’s what we know about Skye so far:

🐾 Breed: Aussie mix with the cutest little nub tail that wags a mile a minute when she sees you!
🐾 Size: About 19 pounds of pure love.
🐾 Dog-Friendly: She’s great with other dogs but likes to take her time getting to know them. (No cats in her foster home to test with.)
🐾 Kid-Friendly: She adores children and is gentle with everyone she meets.
🐾 Affectionate: When you pick her up, she wraps her paws around your neck like a baby. She doesn’t even know she’s a dog! 💕
🐾 Crate Training: Doing great in her crate but also well-behaved when out.
🐾 Potty Training: She’s still learning, but this smart girl is catching on fast!
🐾 Health: Fully vetted and ready for adoption!

Skye is looking for a forever family that’s patient, kind, and full of love. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

Who do you think is happier?

The adopter or Max?

Well whichever you chose you are incorrect because it's actually me...the photographer, foster, rescuer, advocate, and all the other hats I wear.

What you don't see is a scared little dog in the shelter who was about to be euthanized because he and his brother were afraid on intake when they were getting their vaccines. The shelter wanted to euthanize them for this immediately because they were short on space. Said they were unadoptable..... one of our amazing fosters was contacted and she gladly took them in. Once in foster these boys were just so full of life. We finished the rest of their vetting and they were put up for adoption. The one brother was adopted around Christmas time. And this guy Max had two different adopters back out on him.

So I'm happy, happier than I've been in a while because my boy Max had been through a lot. It takes someone with grit and determination to do what we do. But I'm just a regular person who cares a whole awful lot and because of that. Max is here. He's alive. He's smiling. His adopter is smiling and I'm along for the ride.

Do something today that someone or something can never repay you for and I guarantee you will smile too.

Have an amazing life little Max 🐾 I'm going to go see who else needs me now because your crate at my place, it's empty but, my heart, it's full ✨️

Meet Sunny – The Sweetest Shadow You’ll Ever Love!

Sunny is an 11-month-old bundle of love and energy who’s been patiently waiting for her forever home. Despite her beautiful black coat, she often gets overlooked due to Black Dog Syndrome—but we promise, once you meet her, you’ll see just how special she is!

This playful girl is always up for an adventure! She loves going on sniffaris (a fancy word for sniffing everything in sight), being outside, and chasing after her favorite ball. When the day winds down, she’s just as happy to Netflix and chill right by your side.

The perks of adopting Sunny?
✔️ Crate trained and potty trained—she’s got the house manners down!
✔️ Loves a good bone to chew on (so your shoes are safe).
✔️ Grew up in rescue through no fault of her own—she’s just been waiting for you!
✔️ Gets along with cats and enjoys playing with other dogs with slow introductions.
✔️ Prefers older kids who understand her playful energy.

Sunny is the perfect mix of active and cuddly, ready to be your adventure buddy by day and your snuggle companion by night. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving pup who’s ready to bring joy to your life, Sunny is your girl!

Could you be the one to give Sunny the happy ending she deserves? Reach out today to meet her!

Meet Marian – A Timid Beauty Blossoming with Love

Marian, affectionately known as Miss Mari, is a gentle and bashful boxer mix who is slowly discovering the joys of being part of a loving home. In just one week, this sweet girl has started playing with other dogs and has found a special love for all kinds of balls.

Mari is quiet in her crate and has been accident-free in the house, proving she is already on her way to being a well-mannered companion. While she is still cautious, she has begun taking treats from our hands—a small but meaningful step in her journey to trust.

Marian would thrive in a home with another dog to help build her confidence, and she will require a fenced-in yard to feel safe as she continues to adjust. With patience, love, and a little time, we believe Marian will blossom into a wonderful and loyal companion.

If you’re ready to open your heart to this special Boxer mix girl, please apply to adopt her. Shes 4-5 months old. You can find the link in the comments below.

🐱 Why Relocating Feral Cats Isn’t Always the Best Solution – And What You Can Do Instead 🐱

Relocating feral cats might seem like a good idea, but it’s a challenging and often unsuccessful process. Here’s why:

🔹 Territorial Behavior – Feral cats form strong bonds with their home and may attempt dangerous journeys back, risking injury or death. Even with proper acclimation, they might still try to escape.

🔹 High-Stress Experience – Cats must be confined long enough to adjust, which is highly stressful for them—especially since they aren’t socialized to humans. This stress extends to the caregivers as well.

🔹 The Vacuum Effect – Removing cats doesn’t solve the issue; new cats will often move in to take their place.

🔹 Survival Challenges in a New Environment – A relocated cat may struggle to find food, shelter, and protection from predators, putting them at serious risk.

🔹 Ethical Concerns – Many animal welfare organizations consider relocation inhumane due to the dangers and stress it causes the cats.

✅ What’s a Better Solution?

💙 Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) – TNR is a proven method where cats are trapped, sterilized, vaccinated, ear-tipped for identification, and then returned to their original location. This helps control the population and improve their well-being.

🏡 Provide Food & Shelter – If you’re concerned about a local colony, setting up designated feeding stations and shelters can help them stay safe while reducing conflicts.

By choosing humane and effective solutions, we can protect and support our community cats in the best way possible! 🐾

With heavy hearts, we share another story that weighs on all of us in rescue.

I can’t help but think back to the day they brought their new puppy home—how excited they must have been, how they probably promised to love him forever. But forever didn’t last. Just a few short months later, everything changed, and now everyone is heartbroken—especially him.

Someone once told me that dogs are only capable of forming a deep, true connection with five people in their lifetime. I think about that a lot. Am I this dog’s 5th person? Will he know true love again after everything he’s been through?

Now that you’ve made it through my rescue musings on this Wednesday morning, meet Maximus. Like so many before him, he came from the Amish. He’s just 7 months old—still a baby—trying to make sense of the world after being let down. Right now, he’s nervous but sweet, sticking to me like glue as he learns things aren’t so scary. He’s done well in his crate, seems to be potty trained, and has a soft spot for cheese.

Maximus will be available for adoption soon, and this time, he’s looking for a love that truly lasts forever. 💙

🚨 Let’s rally for another long-timer who needs her chance at happiness! 🚨

Meet Trudy, the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet. Trudy has grown up in rescue, and somehow, she’s never had one single application. Not one. 😔 She’s the dog everyone overlooks, but she’s also the one who checks EVERY box.

Trudy came to us as a little puppy with painful mange, and now, at almost a year old, she’s a happy, healthy, certified good girl! 🐾 She’s the perfect medium size, loves hiking, swimming, and playing with her friends (both two- and four-legged!). She’s smart, loving, crate-trained, potty-trained, and great with dogs, cats, AND kids. Seriously—there’s nothing bad we can say about her.

💔 Trudy has been overlooked long enough. She deserves the home we promised her—a family to love her and let her shine.

Her intake photo is in the comments.

We’ve even had an angel sponsor HALF of her adoption fee to help her find that special family! ❤️ Let’s get this amazing girl the happy ending she’s earned.

Trudy is available through Empire Animal Rescue Society (EARS)—her adoption application is in the comments. Please share and help her find her forever home! 🏡✨
