- Meet Churro -
When Churro first joined the DU team, he would have a hard time focusing, especially with the absence of a treat. Churro also had a hard time with his walks, with lots of pulling and fixations on people and dogs. Within just 5 private sessions, @canine_advocate has helped his guardians create harmony and focus on walks, and can even walk calmly now next to the stroller with family in tow.
Positive reinforcement training really works if you know how to work it! Are you getting stuck in the mechanics of positive reinforcement training or unable to fade the lure of a treat? Reach out to Kyra and she’d love to show you how it’s done! R+ training done right ❤️🐾

- The power of choice and play! -
You might have noticed from my stories of how stiff and uncomfortable Zelda is with the pack, and there’s a reason - she is uncomfortable! Zelda previously has gotten along with all dogs and was even an emotional support pup for my Fitz, but when she experienced some inner household dog aggression with Cleo, her confidence hit the toilet around other dogs. It’s taken a while to get here, and the only reason why we’ve gotten this far is because how incredible my foster and sanctuary pups, Koda and Rush, are at reading dog body language. They respect her when she communicates she’s uncomfortable, which helps build Zelda’s confidence. Zelda actively engages in play while intermingling with them, to help create a different emotional response around them. Zelda now feels comfortable just giving them the eye and they’ll respect that, which has decreased her reactivity. Is she completely relaxed when they’re close? No. But she has a ton of choices in the backyard, and by them respecting her body language, she can disengage and decompress with little direction from me. I’m so proud of her progress and can’t wait to see her continue to blossom!
