Good Morning!! I have been working hard to get through all my client contacts lists to reach everyone individually but it is taking a while to get through to everyone so I feel like I need to go ahead and share here to help spread the word. As some of you may already we know my little family is from Georgia. We have been living here in Indiana for 3.5 years.
Very recently our family made a big decision that we are going to move back to Georgia. We thought we would have a few months to prepare for the move but that quickly turned into only having a few weeks to move since my husband was offered a job there. We will be heading out next weekend on January 23rd. It was a very hard decision to make about moving with everything going so well here , we love it here and I had this grooming business which is something I have been wanting to do for a very long time! ❤️ It seems like the craziest timing to be moving with thinks going so well here but life is crazy sometimes so we just gotta roll with it! I want to thank each of you for allowing me to work with your pets. I couldn't have had all this without y'all. I will miss each one of the pups (and the few kitties) that visited! I have a few places to refer those that visit me to. Muttley Crue in Salem, The Backwoods Bark Barn in Mitchell and Waggin Wonders grooming and boarding in Brownstown. Thank y'all I will miss y'all!

These are what I usually recommend for doodles and other thick coated dogs this CC black slicker and a metal comb. If you're not comfortable using a metal brush you can try regular human hair brushes and combs like these and see how these work for your at home maintenance between grooming. I can't stress enough the importance of knowing how to properly brush the coat so if you need help just let me know so I can go over how to properly brush your pup! As a groomer I am always trying out new things so I can let me clients know what does and does not work so that you as owners can try different things at home to figure out what y'all are most comfortable with that will also help to get the job done.

I need help from a few clients with doodles that can grab a couple of these brushes and commit to brushing their dog atleast every other day and commit to 4-6 weeks between appointments. I will go over again how to properly brush your pup and check your work with a comb. In the last class I took there was mention about how metal slickers can actually do more harm than good especially when used excessively so I really want to try these out for at home maintenance and see how y'all like them. You can always go online and order the expensive CC slickers I have been using and telling y'all about but I know alot of owners worry about giving their dogs brush burn using metal brushes and therefore are not able to get a good brushing from starting at the skin and going through the length of the hair. A big problem I see is owners indeed brushing their dogs but only lightly going over the top leaving everything closer to the skin untouched and that becomes matted up so everything on top may look fine but once I get in there if I can't start at the skin and pull a comb through to the end of the hair all over the coat with out getting caught on any Tangles then where ever it's caught I have to either shave the dog down or cut those spots out because at that point that hair is already damaged so If I go through dematting it won't fix the damaged hair it will just mat right back up between visits. Anywaysssss I was thinking if I can have a few people with doodles try these types of brushes out between appointments of 4-6 weeks and it works out well then this could help alot of clients who are worried about hurting their dogs with the metal brushes and therefore not brushing them at all or barely brushing to avoid hurting.

Christmas is right around the corner!!! I know a lot of you will be getting sweet new little puppies and kittens as Christmas gifts. I'm not going to get into what breed to buy or where to and where not to buy from, but I do want to talk to you from a Groomer's perspective! Keep in mind when you buy this pet whether you get it for free or you pay $3000+ for it, this pet will indeed need grooming. The cost of your pet's groom will vary depending on the pet you have and where you take your pet, the condition of their coat and skin, their behavior and what you are wanting done. if you get a wirehaired dog you will want to have it hand stripped which costs more than someone doing a clipper cut and if you are wanting an all over scissor cut that will also cost more. It is important your pet goes to the groomer every 4-6 weeks to ensure they are able to be kept well maintained and to keep consistency of visiting the groomer going so it is something they become used to and not something they see as scary. If you have gotten a hairless pet, they'll need addressing every 2 weeks at the groomer and oiling every other day at home. About every 21 days our pets are shedding dead skin cells and creating new baby cells taking them at 4 weeks gets them through that cycle plus a few extra days so having them go through a good bath and brush out will stimulate the skin really helps kick up and off those dead cells that got to go and get that skin ready for those new fresh baby cells their body is creating! Talk to your groomer if you have a dog with a Longer coat you may want to keep a good bit of length on and figure out if you need to be visiting weekly or biweekly for brush outs or baths between hair cut visits to help maintain that longer coat if you're not able to properly keep up with it at home. This absolutely includes our short coated dogs and medium coated dogs as well! They need to be at the groomer every 4-6 weeks as well. (please make sure your groomer is using conditioner as it should not be optional and should not be considered an "add on" for extra money it should be a part of their groom because it is something they need) There are some circumstances where a pet may need to visit the groomer weekly or biweekly for baths if they have a skin or coat conditions that need to be addressed. It is important you start your pets' trips to the groomers as SOON AS POSSIBLE. That in no way means wait until this pet is 6 months old. I'm talking 8 - 10 weeks start them going to the groomer and I don't mean just take them and leave them and expect everything to get done I mean schedule a meet and greet take the pet and stay with it and just check out the place maybe let the pet walk around and check out the shop and allow the groomer to take the pet back for a nail trim and bring it back to you then let them try a little more in a couple weeks. Best thing for puppies and even new kittens is a few short frequent visits to introduce them to the grooming process so taking biweekly for few visits then start every 4-6 weeks is great. I can't stress enough how important it is to keep up with this. This is for your pet and your pet's groomer (and yourself if you plan to keep up with their grooming needs at home) They need to be comfortable with each other! We Love your pet, and we want them to enjoy coming to us and they will not enjoy our time together if they associate their grooming session with negative feelings. Be sure to keep in mind that your new pet is a big responsibility which obviously you already know! But it's more than just making sure it's fed and has good quality food and has a cute little comfy bed and all the toys and nice bowls to eat from and fountains or fancy bowls to drink from or a fancy new collar and tag with their little name and a new leash and even clothes for some or the coolest litter box if it's a cat and the best cat tower you can buy! Grooming is a part of life for your pet. They will need baths they will need brushing some will need hair cuts, they will need their teeth cleaned they will need their nails clipped etc. Would you want to go months between bathing your whole body and washing your hair and brushing your hair or clipping your nails? That would make us extremely uncomfortable and make us feel gross and make us smell funky so why do we think it's ok to treat our pets that way? Please Also keep in mind groomers are not dog trainers. (sure some may be qualified dog trainers but not all are!) We can give helpful tips and advice and we do work with your pet and have ways to help make the process go smoother and little things we may "train" them do while visiting us like maybe chin rests for trimming around face and head or giving us a paw to trim around feet or clip nails we do not see them daily so if ultimately you're dealing with behavior issues and we are also seeing them in the salon you may need to seek help from a dog trainer/behavioralist which yes, that's costs money as well but, you got this new pet so I'm sure you're prepared for that possibility! Also keep in mind we are NOT veterinarians we cannot diagnose things we can't stitch up your pet we can't sedate your pet if it's not handling the process well and needs sedation, etc. Alot of groomers may be pretty booked up so if you know you are getting a new Christmas pet or already got one make sure to get with groomers in your area and get the pet on the books it may be a few weeks until they can get you in but make the appt and if you like them be sure to stick with them and it's ok to try a few different groomers to find your right fit but once you find your right fit make sure to keep up your appointments with them so you do not lose your pets spot! Merry Christmas y'all and enjoy those new little babies ❤️

Heyyyy y'all! I don't know about y'all but the past couple month have been crazy busy for me! It's been full of studying for classes and grooming and a birthday trip and a Thanksgiving trip and more Grooming and more studying lol I was able to complete one class and pass my exam to become a Certified Canine Esthetician so that is very exciting! I am still in 2 other classes working towards a Certificate and a Diploma as a Pet Aesthetician ❤️ I am currently not able to take on any new full groom clients unless something opens up due to cancellations but I have some spots for bath/brush outs or skin/coat restoration. I want to take a minute to say how much I appreciate those of you that bring your pups to visit me and even those who I don't see any more it was a pleasure to work with your pet when I had the chance to ❤️

This right here y'all! ❤️ Best thing we can do for dogs with these coat types is have them on regular 4-6 weeks schedules to keep that coat maintained so it can properly do it's job. We are not helping them by shaving them once or twice a year that can actually make things worse for them.

I completely understand when someone says their Great Pyrenees, golden retriever, Australian shepherd, ect. Are so hot! I mean look at all that hair, they must be.

But, I’m here to tell you that shaving those double coats is not the solution. Here’s some knowledge you may not know. The double coat is comprised of the shorter Downey undercoat and the longer silky top coat (guard coat). The space in between the undercoat and topcoat is the space that helps regulate your dogs temperature. That space either holds air creating a sort of insulation for the winter months or/and circulates air creating a cool down effect for the summer months. The topcoat is essentially blocking out the hotter air of summer.

When shaving these breeds and removing the coat altogether you are taking away the dogs ability to regulate it’s body temperature. You are putting them at risk for sunburn. And there is a high chance the hair will not grow back the same, taking a year or more to restore their coat to a healthy state. And when it does grow back in it may have a diffeeent texture making it more prone to Matt in the future.

Something your groomer can do to help with the summer heat is being the undercarriage, featherings, mane and pantaloons close to the body. A good de shed treatment will do wonders at thinning out the coat and getting rid of as much of that downy coat as possible.
