One of our main goals for Gus, the Schnauzer puppy, was recall. One of the most important things to teach your dog, in my professional opinion, is "Come", and if you've worked with me in the past you've heard my spiel! Look at Gus go! :)

A common question I get is, "how do you know dogs are playing and not fighting?" I plan to post more examples of positive play, but here is the first one!
I can understand how canine body language can be confusing, especially for new dog parents or dog parents that are beginning to socialize their dog.
In this video you will see two Doodles playing in a "give and take" manner, meaning they both take turns mouthing each other, alternating who is "above", and playful body language. Playful bodies look like variations of fluid movements such as leaping, relaxed & bouncy mannerisms, play bows, and what I like to call "melting", when they flop onto the ground during play.
If you ever want a supervised play session, I offer this service and would be happy to discuss meeting up with you. Stay tuned for more positive play examples!

Dixie girl is demonstrating her self-control skills with "Leave It"! She is a Red Heeler, more commonly known as an Australian Cattle Dog. This breed is widely recognized for their herding ability, but they're also incredibly intelligent, agile, athletic, and scrappy. They're strikingly beautiful as well, with their large ears and round, expressive eyes.
Heelers require a lot of exercise and mental stimulation, and daily training sessions to develop skills and tricks is a great way to use their innate abilities to provide physical, mental, and emotional stimulation.
Dixie's favorite things in the world are fetch with her chuck-it ball, and zooming around the beach.
Miss Nela, short for Canela which is Cinnamon in Spanish, was so much fun to work with. I absolutely adore Pitties/bully breeds, and she was the epitome of one -- sweet, smart, silly, friendly, happy, and curious. We taught her some cues in English, and some in Spanish. This cue we chose to use Spanish, so for "Come", we used the translation, "Ven!".
Of course we started learning in the home, then ventured out into the condo complex shared hallway, gradually making our way to the yard, then the street, then a completely new place! It's safe to say Nela was an A+ student!

Ever heard of a "behavior chain"? It's when we teach a dog a certain verbal cue means "perform these three things then you get a treat". It takes multiple sessions and steps to teach this, but look how incredible Miss Luna can show off her behavior chain of Come, Touch, Sit! #dogtraining #positivereinforcementdogtraining #womanownedbusiness #siberianhusky
Demonstration of a Behavior Chain - Think Like a Dog Training
What exactly is a “Behavior Chain” and how do you implement them in your dog’s training?
👉🏻 A behavior chain is an event in which units of behavior occur in a sequence and are linked together by learned cues.
👉🏻 This is Luna, a 5 year old Siberian Husky. Luna has been working daily on her recall, and her “Come” cue has been conditioned into a behavior chain, or a sequence of behaviors—Come, Touch, Sit.
👉🏻 Her cue is “Come”, and the following behavior chain is “Touch”, then “Sit”. So, for Luna, “Come” means, in dog language, “I approach owner, touch my nose to her hand, and sit in front of her, and that produces the most rewarding result”. Now, Luna is a little farther along in her training program so her rewards are intermittent to enforce performance precision, but three weeks ago she wouldn’t have been able to perform this behavior as fluently. Daily consistent training by her family got her where she is today.
👉🏻 Luna enjoyed zoomies during her “class break”!
