Never Give Up
Life can be hard. Following your dreams can be even harder. There is always something or someone who will try to dissuade you from where you want to go. That’s life. The key is knowing how to push through and never give up no matter how hard it gets. I show my students the hardest parts of riding. I show them when things don’t go their way. I show them how to overcome all obstacles to create safer riders. More educated riders for those bad situations that we know will happen. Once they push past that, it’s amazing the success they can have because that fear of “what if I fall” or “what if they run” doesn’t hold as much weight anymore because they know how to handle the situation. Now they can push themselves farther. Chase their dreams and better their riding techniques and skills. Or in the case of this girl- stand and direct your horse because why not!?
I may not be the streamlined trainer, but I am a trainer who cares about your safety and also cares about pushing you to be the best you can be. My students like to joke - “Ms Jess will put you through the fire” and yes, I will be tough, I will get loud, but it’s all a technique I have spent years working on that I have learned many kids need. Some kids need a different approach and well of course I do that too. Everything I do is to help every student be the best and safest rider they can be and when I see my students having a blast doing what they love and knowing I will always have their back, it warms my heart in so many ways on so many levels.
Time and patience is so important to so many things in life. Even more so with the horses. With Zeus in particular, he is teaching me a new meaning behind patience. With his one eye not doing great and causing him to have sight issues we are learning a whole new process to our training. And I value every minute of it and would not trade it for anything!
These boys have been here just 4 days and they are showing they trust us! My mom was so close to Zeppelin while he rolled!
I love when things come together! Finally got her trot rhythm!!! End on a good note!
The horses love when we change their fields up ... "Musical horses" as we call it! I love watching them have fun running around. My happy herd! 💙
There is nothing wrong with working slow and steady. Improve your balance and control. Build up your bond with your horse. Work your core muscles.
Never forget to slow things down sometimes.
Beautiful evening for lessons ❤️
This beautiful girl is in training to be a western and ranch horse. First time with a lasso while on her back! She did exceptionally well!

Training is communication. As trainers we must listen to who we teach, whether the horse or the student, asking with our instruction.
Dahlia and I have been working together for a year. Today, i asked for a trot under saddle, which has not been successful to date without attitude, bucking or rearing. Today, instead of a fight, she taught me what she needs for the cue to go. So I listened. We landed into a beautiful trot today!!! And what i thought would be a quick teen minute ride, turned into a beautiful 30 minute session!!
My lessons are the one's who decide when they take things to the next level. I can push but it's them who take the opportunity. Tonight someone decided it was time to trot almost the entire lesson! Complete with stopping from the trot and no holding the horn! So proud of this little man tonight.
