🎆Happy Independence Day!🎆
The 4th is hard on a lot of dogs. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Throw what we, dog trainers, call a “Bacon Party!”
**Depending on your dog’s current level of fear, you might need to start with playing Firework sounds on your tv on YouTube at a very minimal volume and/or medication to take the edge off for training to be able to reach them. **
Every time there is a firework, say yes or click with a clicker (first condition your dog to a marker word and learn about mastering your timing -read here: https://www.thecaninestory.com/post/dog-training-marker-words-and-clickers https://www.mariahhinds.com/mastering-marker-training-for-training-success) and then praise and give the reward. Don’t ask for any other criteria such as sitting, we want them to connect fireworks= treat and fun is coming. Adjust your firework noise accordingly and watch for signs of stress. Consult a trainer if you run into any issues or need more guidance as this is just the bare minimum information on this subject, contact us here: timberandcodogtraining.com)
Zeppelin began very fearful of fireworks. He’d shake, pace, bark and just looking at the tense expression on his face (anyone even with no known of body language could tell he was stressssed with a capital S!) After a very brief session when the neighbors started up with fireworks on the 3rd, he began wagging his tail and coming to find a human on his own for a praise and a treat. Later on in the night, he slept through and if was awake would just wag his tail and lay back down. More practice will be in his future to solidify this on the more busy 4th of July. Try the Bacon Party method to help your dog next 4th of July!

**Board and Train Success: Tilly's Transformation!**
Tilly and I have been working hard these past few weeks! She came to me with severe reactivity to both dogs and people—reacting even to someone a football field away—and her owner had to use two leashes due to her intense pulling. Through lots of force-free training and practice, we accomplished a major milestone yesterday. We had one minor reaction during this session (we practiced with another reactive dog client, Luna, who was doing amazing!), but Tilly quickly disengaged and began practicing LAT (Look at That). With a little over a week left together, let's see what more we can accomplish!

🐾 Mastering Self-Control with Bella! 🌨️
Whether in the snowy wilderness or waiting for a delicious meal, Bella, trainer Katelyn’s helper dog is demonstrating the art of patience. 🚪❄️ Let’s explore the benefits of teaching your pup to wait:
✨ Promotes Self-Discipline: Waiting at the door is like a daily exercise in self-control. It builds mental resilience and reinforces good behavior.
✨ Enhances Bonding: Practicing patience is a shared experience that deepens the bond between you and your furry friend. It’s a moment of connection and understanding.
✨ Prevents Rushing: Waiting becomes a pause that helps prevent the excited rush outside, reducing the risk of accidents or chaos.
✨ Encourages Focus: The act of waiting redirects your pups energy, fostering concentration and focus on you, making training sessions more effective.
✨ Snowy Adventures Await: Waiting isn’t just a training routine; it’s a precursor to the joy of snowy adventures. Each patient pause transforms into an exciting venture into the winter wonderland.
