Today, we're sharing an update on our shelter capacity. Since 2022, MCDS has been experiencing increased intake numbers, and this week, we have had a record number of intakes-17 dogs were brought in as strays in a single day!

MCDS has 40 full indoor-outdoor kennels, with 13 smaller overflow kennels to temporarily house strays as they are processed for intake. Each kennel that is filled in with color is currently full. As you can see, currently, nearly every kennel in our shelter is full.

We're very grateful for the community support we already have. A small team of staff members is responsible for caring for all of the dogs in the shelter-including feeding, cleaning, providing enrichment, and overseeing their medical and behavioral health. We have an amazing team of volunteers who help our team with dog walking, dishes/laundry, and many other tasks that help the shelter run smoothly.

During times of high intake, staff and volunteers work together to ensure the dogs' needs are being met, but we would love more support!

If you'd like to help, here are some ways you can support MCDS:

🐾Ensure that your dog's microchip is up to date and has accurate contact information. We receive many dogs with microchips that are not updated, which makes it more difficult to reunite dogs directly with their owners.
🐾Make sure that your dog is wearing their Marion County license tag and/or an ID tag with an updated phone number (and backup contact information if possible). The more dogs that can be quickly reunited with their owners in the community means fewer strays coming into the shelter! If you find a dog wearing a license tag, call MCDS and we'll help get the dog back home!
🐾Volunteer! Visit mcdogs.net to fill out our quick and easy volunteer application, and our Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to you to schedule you for orientation and training. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities, from dog walking, to helping create enrichment items for the dogs, to outreach events!
🐾Foster! Fill out our volunteer application-we are always looking for fosters for large dogs especially!
🐾Adopt! Our kennels are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 12pm-6pm and Saturday from 10am-3pm. Visit the shelter and walk through our kennels! Whether you're looking for a hiking buddy, or a companion to curl up next to you on the couch, we've got the right fit for you!

This is our sweet, sweet Zoey before and after a dental procedure. 🦷

Despite our previous veterinary maintenance, that puggie mouth got bad quickly and many teeth had to go.

🐾 Has your veterinarian mentioned your pet needing a dental? The disease is below the gum line! Your pet deserves the dignity of a pain-free mouth for monching on mucho snackies.

🐾 Teeth brushing by a grooming pro only brushes off plaque acquired within the last day or so and if your pup already has sensitivity, can grow to fear grooming as it's associated with their painful mouth. I can do so, but want to be transparent that you need to pair many factors to maintain a happy healthy smile including appropriate toys, chews, home brushing.

🐾 Financially, pet health care can hit us hard. I don't personally have pet insurance but I've heard wonderful stories including that it can cover grooming expenses (do your research!)

🐾 I highly recommend you look into the Care Credit card if you need some oompf to pay down that quote.

New Salon is COMPLETE!

We were EFFED royally 👑. The contractor we hired has TWO ccb's... one under the husband's name, suspended, one under the wife's name, suspended. They "worked" three days, got very little done.

A friend alerted me to their past lawsuits and shoddy workmanship. I relieved them from the job and requested to be refunded the remainder of the deposit. It's SPENT?? $6,000? To frame up a wall?! We bought the man door and service door!

My 2:00 pm client today is a contractor and I had him glance... It's ALL done wrong. I am so sick over this, but grateful that he can step in Monday and fix the errors/ move forward.

People are coming out of the wood work to share their horror stories about TD Contractors (Newberg).

We will be hiring a lawyer. Please send positivity. I'm ready to fight. To jeopardize my business, my home and my family... It's inexcusable.

Update:

I served TD Contractors with a 30 - day intent to file a complaint letter and it's time. I've attempted to be civil but they live in an alternative reality. My second contractor who swooped in to help clean up their mistakes has been getting a reach around from the City of Salem as have I.

When all is said and done, my salon will be valued at $25 - 30k with lost money, extra fees and materials, permits, so please enjoy it.

I hope to have a busy holiday season to distract myself. 🌲

My significant other and I miscarried Friday night. Please allow some extra response time for appointment communications. I don't know how we'll be feeling going forward.
