The Salem Saturday Market opens for the season this Saturday. Find us under the yellow tent in our usual spot, Space 11 in the SE corner of the Market lot. We will have meadowfoam, blackberry, and wildflower honey tomorrow along with creamed honey, gift sets, beeswax, lip balms, and honey sticks! Come meet our new employee, Ben, who will be helping run our Market booths this season.

The weather should be gorgeous on Saturday! Call your friends or relatives tonight and bring them to the Market on Saturday (9am-2pm). 🍯

We we're under a tornado warning this evening, a rare weather event here in the Willamette Valley. Despite the high winds, heavy rains, and thunderstorms, all the bee hives still have their lids. We'll be checking throughout the night and into tomorrow morning to ensure all the lids are still on.

Winter is upon us, and our bees are snug as a bug in their hives. Did you know honey bees maintain around 92⁰F in the center of the cluster year-round? Even though it is winter, the colony is still raising some baby bees that need to stay warm to develop.

Flying Bee Ranch received a total of about 3" of snow today and expecting more snow with freezing rain overnight. We are open tomorrow (Friday), but please don't travel unless it is safe. We ship honey for your convenience too! ❄️ 🐝

Did you know honey doesn't expire? Honey is naturally anti-bacterial due to its low moisture content and makes it self-preserving! Stock up for winter time and don't worry about "best by" or "sell by" dates. You won't find any of those on our jars of raw honey!

After a much needed weekend camping in the Oregon Cascades, we're back to regular hours this week! We have some new, freshly harvest honeys in the shop this week including canola and coriander! Canola honey is light in color and had a smooth butteryness to the flavor. It is amazing on cornbread and othe baked goods. Coriander has a complex flavor profile with notes of licorice, citrus, and a hint of chocolate. 🤤🍯

While volunteering for the Oregon State Beekeepers Association bee booth at the yesterday, Jeremy found a varroa mite (Varroa destructor) that fell from the observation hive. He used a microscope at the neighboring master meletologist booth to zoom in on the parasitic mite. Check out the photos! Also, check out the LIVE mite he captured now on display at the bee booth!
