UPDATE: The Indiana Board of Animal Health has now reported cases of increased incidents of respiratory illness in dogs through much of the state. Most of these cases have not needed medical treatment or responded well to treatment for typical respiratory illnesses in dogs such as kennel cough complex. Please exercise caution if your pet is boarding and socializing with other dogs through the holidays. If your pet is showing signs of respiratory disease and then becomes lethargic, not eating or having difficulty breathing please seek veterinary care immediately. If your pet is being boarded or going to playdates through the holidays, please make sure your vaccinations are current. Remember it takes about 2 weeks for a pet to reach good immunity after vaccination.

But did you know that the “turkey tick” is not actually a thing? It is the nymph stage of the Lone Star Tick (Amblyomma americanum) and it’s an itty bitty little thing. The Lone Star tick is the primary carrier and transmitter of Ehrlichiosis in our area.
We see about 1 in 5 dogs be positive for exposure to ehrlichia in our office. Make sure your dog is on effective tick control year long.
