When Deb and Ric adopted Otto, a 150-pound Great Dane, they knew they were going to need help to make him a family pet. He didn't know how to walk nicely on a leash, would jump on people's backs, and would lunge at dogs. Now he makes frequent trips to Home Depot and greets people politely. He can greet other dogs calmly. When people come to the home, he will stay on place until he is told he can greet them. He knows to wait to go up or down the steps until Deb or Ric is off the steps. Yesterday Deb and Otto did an amazing job on the Canine Good Citizen test. We are very proud of them.

Cash did a great job on his first attempt at the teeter-totter.

Molly does a great job with come-by and away. She adds a unique twist to a roll and ends with a nice high-five.

Little dogs can do obedience too. Gracie and Tucker did a great job of doing a figure 8 around Star and Addie. Using the crates for different things like figure 8, place, come-bye, and away teaches the dogs to pay attention to the commands and to avoid anticipation..

Molly is learning to put her toys in the basket and take it to Pam. Good job.

Around is usually used after calling the dog to you to bring it to the heel position. Stepping back with the right leg helps to get the dog moving. He moves behind your back, stops, and sits by your left leg. If your dog walks on the right, just reverse it.

I put Addy on a place command to practice duration, distance, and distraction. (Never increase more than one at a time.) Jim practiced walking Star on a loose leash. Notice that he is not holding the leash and Star moves with him. She never allows the leash to get tight.
