With the 4th of July just around the corner, everyone is getting ready to celebrate Independence Day with cookouts, family gatherings and most importantly watching public fireworks displays.
While we humans are enjoying all of these activities, we can’t forget about our furry family members who are frightened/stressed by them. Below are a couple tips to keep in mind:
🎆Fireworks are loud and confusing for pets. We urge pet owners to leave their furry friends at home and inside during the firework display. Give pets their own quiet room, playing gentle music, or have the tv on to cover the outside noises. You can also give them distracting treats, like a frozen stuffed Kong!
🌭When grilling, ask guests to play with your pup away from the flames, and have healthy dog treats available. Some human food may be toxic or dangerous if ingested, so advise friends and family not to feed your dog table scraps.
🔒Make sure your pet is wearing a properly fitted collar with up to date identification and current tags just in case your pet becomes scared and runs away from home.
🐕🦺 Walk your pet earlier in the day. Some pets may be too frightened to go out once the fireworks have begun. This is also a good way to tire them out so that they can rest better later.
🌟 Keep sparklers, glow sticks, charcoal, and lighter fluid away from curious pets.
