Putting our training program and ideology to the test 💪 with Benjamin Buford Blye🦐 Getting a horse to truly accept pressure and be responsive, not reactive, before introducing the gunfire is key, and the heart of our program. Horses are prey animals, with a natural reaction of flight. They feel forms of pressure from all over. Put simply, training a horse is the right combination of sensitizing and desensitizing to various forms of pressure. While we want a horse to be responsive to leg and seat cues, we also want them to be accepting of outside pressures, such as loud noises, sudden movements, etc. Gunfire is just another form of pressure. The goal is to train the correct response, not reaction. Benjamin Buford Blye🦐 was started under saddle by Jared and has been continuing his education here over the past several months. This is his first day ever being shot off and after shooting two guns off him at a walk and trot, we successfully ran two patterns. No tension or reaction to the gunfire. Put in the right type of work ahead of time and you will see the results you want.
