Farm Fun Fact of the Day: Nanneman Farms grows many crops in addition to strawberries. One crop that we have grown for many years is sugar beet seeds. The seeds we harvest are used to plant and produce sugar! The seed harvested from the female plants is used for sugarbeet production and sugar processing. The male plants (the lighter green rows in the video) are used for pollination and are destroyed prior to the seed maturing.

In 1959, Bernard and his father, Charles Nanneman, purchased the land where Nanneman Farms sits today raising strawberries, bush beans, and wheat. Ben and his son, Marty, went into full partnership in 1992 as Nanneman Farms and now run a thriving fresh market operation that sells strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries to local patrons, fruit stands, and businesses in Salem, Eugene, Corvallis, Bend and Vancouver, Washington.
