I am posting this way later than I ever intended.

Back just before Christmas Lost Creek Goldens decided to donate a puppy to a child with special needs. We had an outpouring of nominations come in with some very heartbreaking stories. We had selected Lincoln as the recipient of the donated puppy. We also had another puppy in mind for donating but had to make sure things were right first. Then when we notified the recipient for the second puppy we were asked to hold off announcing that because they wanted it to be a surprise for their children. The pickup date of the first weekend of January was set. The pickup and delivery of the new puppy (named Winnie) was made in early January. Life got busy and we are just now posting but wanted to let everyone know and to share the Weldon-Beardslee family story.

They have two children with Autism, Zach and AJ. Zach is nonverbal and very loving and caring. AJ has mild autism and struggles with the social difficulties that comes along with that.

Winnie is living with her new family and we look forward to updates and hearing about Winnie, AJ, and Zach as their bond and love grows!

The Weldon-Beardslee Family Story:

On May 15th, 2021, my family suffered a devastating house fire losing everything including our 2 family dogs. One of these was a service golden retriever named Baker. We have 2 children with special needs and this service dog had been donated by my husband’s fire department for our son due to his severe autism. He was trained for 2 years to be a support dog for our son and he was only 4 years old when we lost him. We had only been away from the house for 20 minutes when we got the phone call that our house was on fire and we immediately called everyone we knew to please go save our dogs.

He was the perfect addition to our family, and ended up being bonded even more with our daughter whom suffers from severe depression, anxiety, and autism. Baker was her best friend which made our fire and having to tell her that we lost her best friend even more upsetting for all of us. They were each other’s ride or die. He knew when she was having a tough day or struggling emotionally and he would give her hugs, lay his head on her for pressure and just cuddle with her as long as she needed to help her feel safe and calm.

His loss has been profound for her. She mourns him still every day. She finally said she was ready for a new puppy, and we decided to not get a golden immediately because we did not want to constantly compare the new puppy to Baker. We did get a new pup that has helped us all to heal and is now a year old, but she truly misses her golden and service animal.

I know that we are not located nearby, being in CT, but my husband and I would gladly travel and bring a new golden puppy home to surprise our daughter and welcome the pup into our home again. Whomever you choose is very lucky to gain the unconditional love of a golden, but we would be honored to be able to add a new golden to our family and retrain him to support our two children.

We had the pleasure of Lincoln and his family arriving on Christmas Eve day to get his new puppy! So much joy in seeing a puppy going to such a special and loving family! Lincoln seemed very excited for his new companion and we look forward to updates on this blossoming relationship! Here are some pictures of Lincoln and his family picking up their new family member.

Here is Lincoln's story from his family:

Lincoln is 11 years old (turning 12 the day after Christmas), he has a very rare chromosomal duplication called 1q42-44 duplication x3, when Lincoln was a baby he started having myoclonic seizures (like a brain reset that looked like a startle) up to 90 times per minute making it very difficult for Lincoln to progress, we were able to get him on medication as soon as he was diagnosed as having seizures, but we still didn't know why he was having the seizures or what else was going on with our beautiful little boy, with all of our questions and concerns we were lead to a geneticist who recommended we have him tested, which is when we found out his diagnosis (a mouth full of letters and numbers) he was only the 33 diagnosed case with this exact duplication, but we have learned a lot since then.. Lincoln eventually grew out of the seizures, but still wasn't reaching his mile stones, he choked on most foods other than blended foods like baby food and thickened milk, Lincoln attended all types of therapy in his early development, but was still unable to walk up until age 4 when we were able to get him treated by a neurological chiropractor and between his therapy there and his physical therapy accompanied by much prayer and support from family he was able to overcome and grow. Lincoln is now doing very well, but still faces many challenges and has unique needs and a unique brain, he is loved dearly by everyone who truly knows him and makes everyone laugh daily with his outstanding sense of humor, Lincoln loves animals of all kind and bonds with them on a deeper level than most. He has always wanted a dog of his own and we have told him that one day we would help him get not only a dog, but a companion and best friend, we weren't sure how to accomplish this, but now thanks to yet another miracle in the story of Lincoln and the kind charity of the people at Lost Creek Goldens Lincoln's dream is becoming a reality! We are so excited and thankful for this opportunity!

Lost Creek Goldens is pleased to announce that Lincoln will be receiving a puppy to provide unconditional love and joy and to help him with his needs!!

This was a very challenging decision. There were many nominations submitted, each with their own unique circumstances and varying needs. We spent many hours sifting through the messages, making sure we didn’t miss anyone, and it seemed when we would get close to the last message, more would come in. And even still, after we completed the selection we are still receiving more nominations! There were many stories of grief, difficulty, and challenges that bring tears to your eyes and makes us wish we had enough puppies to give everyone a puppy and wish we could do even more.

We know that Lincoln and his family will take great care of their new puppy, and their puppy will take great care of Lincoln, and are excited to watch this new love and bond grow!

We will definitely being doing this again in the future and hope those that were not selected this time are not discouraged.

We appreciate the support of our family, friends, and our new family/friends (Lost Creek Goldens Family), and any that share and spread the word.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
