“Hello, my name is Tortellini, like the pasta! I am a very sweet but timid girl who is looking to find her forever home! I am ready to make a connection with the right person or people who walk in the door. I am going to need time to settle in once home, but in time I will learn to be much more confident.
I am quite curious and love to explore new places! Whether it be as far under something or as high up as I can go, I will always find a good place to curl up for a snooze.”

If you or someone you know if interested in Tortellini, make sure to fill out your adoption questionnaire here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/MER/Cat

“Hi there, I’m Bug! And this my sister Dandelion! We are 7 months old and came to MRFRS after being found outside. We are both pretty quiet girls who allow some gentle petting. I really enjoy ear scratches! My sister is a bit more shy than me, but is warming up to the very nice people here. They give us lots of yummy food and cozy blankets.
We are both ready to find a family who will bring us home. We would be happy to go either together or separated as we are not bonded to one another.”

If you or someone you know is interested in Bug or Dandelion, fill out our adoption questionnaire here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/MER/Cat

“Hello, my name is Basil! I am a 5 year old boy who came from a home with too many other cats. I arrived here with five of my siblings and we are all looking for new homes. I am very fond of my siblings and wouldn’t mind having a home with at least one of them. I am a bit timid at first approach but do allow some gentle petting.”

If you or someone you know is interested in adding another feline to your family, Basil or one of his siblings might be the purr-fect fit for you! Basil is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

What better time to celebrate bringing home a new feline friend then during Adopt-A-Cat Month! Come by during our open hours Tuesday-Saturday 10-4pm to visit with any and all of our available cats - like Blossom:

“Hi, I’m Blossom! I’m a 3 year old girl who came to the shelter from a home with too many other animals. I would much rather have a place of my own where there is lots of room for me to explore. A place where I wouldn’t have to share any of my food and get treats all to myself! I do enjoy a nice, quiet spot away from the noise where I can curl up for a good nap. When I’m not napping, I like to look out the window and watch the birds flying by. They fly so fast, but I know I could catch one!”

If Blossom sounds like someone who interests you please inquire with our Adoption Counselor about adopting her. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccinations.

What an amazing Strut for Strays we had at Cider Hill Farm yesterday! We are thrilled to announce that to date we have raised almost $58,000 to continue our work helping cats and kittens in our community!

We are beyond grateful to our walkers, sponsors, and the countless supporters and volunteers who made this day possible! We can’t believe we had over 130 walkers as you can see in the photo :) And beyond all the funds raised, a great time was had by all! Way to go strutters! You can help us raise even more for the cats by making a donation on the Strut for Strays website at https://secure.givelively.org/donate/merrimack-river-feline-rescue-society-inc/strut-for-strays-2024. The website will remain open until Sunday June 9th. Thank you meow-y much!

Meet Clio! This quiet, gentle 2-year old girl came to us as a stray and is a bit timid in her new surroundings. She is curious though and would do well in a quiet home with lots of love.

We would love to have people come in to meet Clio and our other wonderful adult cats, so we’re extending our $25 discount off Adult Cat adoption fees through Saturday (6/1)! That means if you adopt an Adult Cat between today and Saturday, the adoption fee is only $150.

The Adoption Center is open from 10:00am until 4:00pm and walk-ins are welcome. So stop by to meet the cats - you just may meet the love of your life! And be sure to say hi to Clio when you come in!

MRFRS needs your help to reach our goal of $7,500 for our Fiscal Year End Appeal by this Friday, May 31st. The funds raised for this appeal are critical to ensure our adoption, spay/neuter, and veterinary financial assistance programs are always there when cats need them most.

To Donate: https://mrfrs.networkforgood.com/projects/227674-2024-fye-appeal-pawsitive-change-campaign

As an incentive to help us reach this financial goal, the kittens in foster care at MRFRS have raised their paws to help create PAWsitive Change by filming videos! For each online donation of $50 or more made between now and noon on May 31st, you will receive an email with an adorable kitten video as our way of purr-sonally thanking you for your generosity!

Together, we can create PAWsitive Change and improve the lives of all cats! Thank you!

We’re sending a big high five to our a-meow-zing community of supporters! We requested your help to get the shelter a new microwave and you responded immediately! We’re happy to share that a kind donor (who wishes to remain anonymous) will be bringing a new microwave to the shelter this Saturday.

After many years of service, our Shelter microwave has stopped working. At one point, the kittens volunteered to help fix it, but as you can see, they are much better at napping than repairing microwaves!

We're reaching out to our community to see if anyone would be willing to donate a new microwave or if you are upgrading yours and could donate your gently used one, we would be most appreciative.

Please message us back or send an email to [email protected] if you can help us replace our microwave. Thank you!

Our Adoption Center is open to the public from 10:00am to 4:00pm Tuesday - Saturday, so make plans to come in and meet the wonderful cats we have available for adoption! She is 9 months old and while very timid, she is curious and can be won over with treats!

We welcome everyone to come meet these cats and all the other fabulous felines currently at the shelter, so please visit during our open hours (10:00am to 4:00pm) Tuesday - Saturday!

Harry is a great cat hoping to find his new home - here’s what he wants you to know:

“Hi! My name is Harry and I am 2 years old. After being outside for some time, I thought I would have a much better chance at finding a home if I came here to MRFRS. I really appreciate them taking me in to help fill my tummy and give me a comfy place to sleep. You might notice I have one crinkly ear – that’s because I got frost bite from being outside in the cold too long. Just another reason why I’m happy to be inside now, safe and sound!

I’ve been here for about three months and really want to go to my forever home soon. I’ve watched so many of my feline friends here at the Shelter find their perfect people – I just hope mine come soon!”

If you’d like to meet Harry in person, please fill out our adoption application: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/MER/Cat

75,000! That’s the number of spay/neuter surgeries that have been done through MRFRS’ Catmobile program! Since 2008, the Catmobile has been a driving force in preventing feline overpopulation by bringing access to low-cost spay/neuter surgery to towns across Massachusetts. Today we’re celebrating the milestone of having reached our 75,000th surgery and having prevented the suffering of literally millions of cats over the last 16 years who would not have had homes.

We also want to recognize the dedicated and hard-working team on the Catmobile who, in addition to providing the spay/neuter surgeries, also make sure our feline clients receive vaccines, flea treatment, nail trim and microchips as part of their visit.

And thank you to our donors as well who understand the importance of the Catmobile program in preventing feline overpopulation and generously support the work being done.

Snip, snip, hooray! The Catmobile has fixed 75,000 cats as of today!

MRFRS is very fortunate to have an incredible team of volunteers who share their time, effort, and talents every day in support of our mission. We could not have helped over 143,000 cats in the last 32 years if not for the tireless commitment of these wonderful people!

During National Volunteer Appreciation Week (4/21 - 4/27), a yearly event to recognize the many people who give generously of their time and resources, MRFRS would like to say thank you very much to our volunteers for the countless ways you help MRFRS care for cats in need - we think you’re all purr-fect! Thank you!
