You may have seen that avian influenza has made the national news lately. Our team is sharing some tips to limit exposure to this virus, also known as H5N1, whether you're concerned about your flock or your home.

Follow the news to see if you are in a high risk area. Monitor your flock and look for signs of the virus, which may look like respiratory distress, lethargy, or sudden death. If you notice these signs, we recommend contacting your local veterinarian or animal health authorities.

If you have to temporarily restrain your backyard chickens to perform a medical check or treatment (a method called tonic immobility), you may want to consider giving them Recover 911 afterwards to help them recover from the stress that this method can cause, even if it's the safest option for working on your birds.

If you need to work on your chickens for any reason, tonic immobility may be a way to do it so your birds don't move around too much and potentially injure themselves.

12/17/2024

While tonic mobility can be a great method to restrain chickens for treatment or medical checks, it can cause them a great deal of stress if birds are in this state for longer than necessary.

12/16/2024

We're talking all things TONIC IMMOBILITY this week, an effective way to restrain your flock for treatment or medical checks. When your chickens are in this state, you'll notice a reduction in vocalization, intermittent eye closure, and rigidity.

What is TONIC IMMOBILITY? This is a fear-based phenomenon that happens when a chicken is physically restrained, leading them into a state of temporary paralysis or immobility.

Have you ever tried this method when performing a medical check or giving treatment(s) to birds in your flock?

Here's a wild question for you - have you ever heard of a chicken getting hypnotized? This "hypnotized" state is actually called tonic immobility and can be an effective way to restrain your chickens for treatment or medical checks! Learn what it is, how it can be useful, and how to do it this week.

Our goal is to provide you, your family, and your flock the safest, highest quality, and most nutritious black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) on the market. And that’s why we only use BSFL that’s grown, dried, and packaged here in the USA.

Has your flock tried Freedom Fly yet?

12/05/2024

Measuring the nutrient content of black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) is important, but how does it work? Being able to provide consistent, nutrients in BSFL is so important when it's used as a feed ingredient, and with the help of NIR technology, our partners at EnviroFlight are able to provide a consistent, high quality source of BSFL used in our 100% USA supply chain poultry treat Freedom Fly.

Where is your BSFL coming from?
