Have you met Freya?

Meet Freya, who comes to us from the community, as she was found abandoned in a trailer in SC. Freya a 1.5-year-old, 90 lb., Great Dane who is extremely loving and well-behaved. She’s in a foster home now, and her foster dad will sing her praises. Freya is housetrained, crate trained, affectionate, gentle, great with kids, other large dogs, cats, and adjusts well to change. She is wonderful in the car, on the leash, and is respectful of letting her human go first versus pulling out the door. She is spayed and is current on her vaccinations. Can you help?
These dogs are in need of rehoming, due to a death in the family. The owner has lost his wife and is moving out of state to be with his kids, and the dogs are unable to come with him.

Pyrenees / Husky Mix Female; Spayed, 50 lbs.
Lab Mix Male; Neutered, 50 lbs.

Both are young adult, current on their shots and vaccines. Both are housebroken and they have spent their time both indoors and outdoors. Both are very friendly and have been in his care for over 3 years. Both have been around adults and teenagers. They love taking walks, car rides, understand their commands, such as "off", "sit", "stay", "down", "heel", and "come".

Welcome Denso (f) to the FHL Family. She is a 1 year old, spayed, 40 lb, female Doodle. Denson has had her first set of shots and is microchipped. This little lady is VERY scared and skiddish. After about an hour of sitting with her and talking to her she finally calmed down some and laid down and gave up her belly. She is very skiddish to touch but once you keep rubbing and scratching her she is all in. She is definitely a flight risk at this time. She will need alot of patience, but as today has proven she will come around quickly. She is dog friendly, cat friendly and crate trained. She will need a fenced yard, time, love and consistency. Denso was groomed and it didn't go well. She will need patience and or medical grooming in the future. Meet Teako 🖤

Teako was adopted from us as a puppy back in 2023. She has recently been returned for starting a fight with the other dog in the household. Teako does like to play with other dogs (under supervision); however, she can be possessive of her people and would do best being the only dog in a home. Teako is an absolute love bug and would spend all day on your lap! She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, house trained, and knows her basic commands. Congratulations to Pongo for being adopted! He is the first of our 8 Dalmation pups to be adopted and the other 7 siblings are still available. Pongo and his brothers and sisters were born on November 25 into the care of one of our fosters. His mom came from the Rowan County Animal Shelter. Pongo's new parents are already in love with him and even took one of his sisters home with them to foster.

Welcome Shaggy Bear. He comes to us as an Owner Surrender. His mom was placed into hospice care last weekend and the family wanted to make sure he was taken care of with her permission of course. He is a 3 year old, 6 lb, unaltered male Yorkie. Bear lived alone with his mom and was never exposed to but 1 other dog and never went outside. He has always used p*e pads. Since coming to us we have been trying to house break him but it is going slowly and he wears a wrap most of the time. He absolutely loves other dogs now and is so curious. Since it was just him and his mom who is older he was not used to being picked up alot or does not know how to walk on a leash. He is a little fella. So sweet and eager to learn. Bear is scheduled for neuter on the 23rd. He has been microchipped, his shots have been updated and he is heartworm negative. He was also groomed for maybe the first time and didn't excellent. There is not a mean bone in this little guy's body. He just hasn't been exposed to alot outside of his previous home. Welcome Betty Lou to the FHL Family. She came to us as a found stray. We have held her thru her 10 day hold and exhausted every avenue to find her owners. The finders felt like she was dumped due to her location. Betty Lou is a 2-4 year old female Pug. We have gotten her shots, microchip and done a heartworm test which was negative. Betty is quick to warm up and becomes a velcro dog very quickly. She is housebroken, crate trained, dog and cat friendly. She has a vibrant and bossy personality. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we wanted to let all who called, text, instant messaged and prayed know that our beautiful little Nova crossed over just a short time ago. We did everything we could to help save her little self but the cluster seizures were to much for her small body. It is also thought that there may have been possibly something else underlying, but we will never know. We will have her cremated on Monday and a paw print made. After that she will be placed with our other babies that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you all for your prayers.

Congratulations to our Murphy for being adopted! Murphy came to us from the Cabarrus County Animal Shelter. At only 7 months old, this guy is a bundle of affection, and his personality won us all over instantly. And those ears....how can you resist loving those ears?

His new family reported that everything is going great, and he has stolen all of their hearts.

A very special thanks to the team at Doggone Fun for not only boarding this guy, but also for showing him love, laughter, and hope.

Congratulations to Sage for being adopted! Sage had a rough start in life. We got her from our Veterinarian's Office when she was initially brought in emaciated at only 17 lbs. by a breeder that took her back after they found her in bad shape. She had surgery (plastic and other foreign objects were removed from her) and after that, the breeder decided he did not want her back.

Her new mom is feeding her chicken and rice and she's doing so much better. Sage now wags her tail when spoken to and right now she is doing a lot of sleeping and resting. We are also happy to report that she follows her new brother, Wally, around and he always checks to make sure she's coming.

Welcome Daisy from the Rowan County Animal Shelter . Daisy was an Owner Surrender Rescue Only due to a bite. She has been 100% absolutely precious from the moment we met her. She has been here 20 minutes and has made herself at home, introduced herself to everyone with no issues and has been a nonstop face licker. 🤭. Daisy is a 7 year old, spayed, 15 lb, Chihuahua/ Dachshund mix. She has only ever known one home. She has had her 1st set of shots, is microchipped and heartworm negative. Update 1/9/2025 @ 11:45pm. Seizures have started back

Update 1/9/2025 @ 1:45pm : She is home resting. The last 24 hrs have exhausted her little body. She was placed on IV Ringers, Keptra and Phenobarbital. She is not walking, but is very wobbly when standing. Vomiting and drooling alot. Hopefully she will get her strength back soon and will be on more of an upward tick.

When you or if you or someone you know decides to rehome your pet.. PLEASE for the absolute LOVE OF GOD do so with any an ALL medications they are on. This absolutely precious, 1 year old baby Nova was surrendered without her medication. She was absolutely fine until she wasn't last night. She has had cluster seizures on and off ALL night. As of this morning at 6:45 am she has been having cluster seizures nonstop. Nonstop!!! We literally called ahead and ran into West Innes Animal Hospital this morning in full seize. She is currently there and being treated. We will do everything we can for this little lady to see if we can get her thru this and then if God will allow her to live she will be placed on a controlled regimen and this will never happen again if we can help it. This is one of the many heartbreaking sides of Rescue. Prayers for Nova please. Do better people. At least she is safe now. Meet Cupid who comes to us from the Rowan County Animal Shelter. Have you ever seen such a lovable face? Cupid is a 4-year-old, 83 lb., Great Pyrenees / Lab mix with the absolute best personality. This big guy is truly a gentle giant who definitely loves the easy life. While Cupid loves to play and would thrive best in a home with a fenced in yard, he is just as content to lay around the house and nap during the day. He is a very low-key dog who is oh-so-loving and wonderful. Cupid is housetrained, neutered, microchipped, gets along with everyone he meets, whether it be kids, adults, or other dogs, and loves attention. He was hit by a car earlier in life and as a result has a slight head tilt and can be goofy sometimes...but that makes him so much more lovable! He can't wait to meet his new family.
