We're having a Massachusetts Animal Fund voucher day in BROCKTON for cats on Saturday, April 9! If you are on state or federal assistance, live in the Brockton area and need your cat spayed or neutered, please give the Catmobile office a call at 978-465-1940 to request an appointment.
Appointments are limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that Catmobile safety rules apply, as always: cats must be age 3 or under and we are unable to accommodate purebred breeds due to health concerns.
Cat got your plant? If your kitty likes to nibble on greens, you might wonder if you should be worried. The answer is yes, particularly if you aren’t sure if the plant being chewed is toxic to cats.
If you see your cat eating a plant and you are uncertain if it is poisonous, or if you even suspect that your cat ate such a plant, do the following before you take her to your veterinarian:
🌱 Remove any plant material from your cat’s hair, skin, and mouth if you can do so safely
🌱 Keep your cat confined in a safe environment for close monitoring of symptoms (i.e., difficulty breathing, vomiting, excessive drooling or diarrhea)
🌱 Call the Pet Poison Helpline at 1-855-764-7661 or ASPCA Animal Poison Control at 1-888-426-4435
Want to know which plants are toxic? ASPCA has some great online resources and March is Pet Poison Prevention Month so it’s a great time to brush up on plant facts!
Last month the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society celebrated National Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. We want to thank each and every one of you who donated to the Spay/Neuter appeal. Over 200 cat lovers raised their “paws” to support MRFRS’s work to improve access to affordable spay/neuter services in our communities, raising enough funds to spay/neuter 197 cats!
When you think about the big picture - the thousands of “accidental” kittens prevented, reduced risk of health issues such as cancer, and reduced urge to roam which can cause fighting, injuries and infection - the impact is truly remarkable. We’re so grateful for your support!
Be sure to follow us at the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society to see all of our happy "tail" updates! 😻
Wondering why we've been so quiet lately? We have decided to combine both of our MRFRS Facebook accounts into one:

Follow us there for all of the cat content you love! 😺
Pet retention is something we at the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society think about a lot! The pet retention work that MRFRS does in the community prioritizes keeping cats with the people that love them whenever possible. What does that look like? See below for a snapshot! ⬇️
By improving pet retention, we can help keep families together and prevent animals from unnecessarily entering shelters in the first place, which will help make the world a better place for these fuzzy, amazing creatures that we all know and love! 💙 Learn more at: https://conta.cc/3JYWws7
If you're looking for two sweet, affectionate cats, look no further! ❤️ ❤️
Furda and Shoresy are a bonded pair who are searching for a home together after coming to MRFRS as strays. They could not be any sweeter - they love lots of attention, being patted and playtime!
Furda (black fur around both eyes) is a two-year-old female and Shoresy is a three-year-old male. Both are spayed & neutered, microchipped, and up to date on (age-appropriate) vaccines.
Furda and Shoresy have a lot of love to give! If you have room for twice the love in your heart and home, you can learn more about them and apply to adopt at www.mrfrs.org/meet-the-cats.
We have moved our Catmobile content to Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society! Make sure you're following us there to keep up with what’s new at the Catmobile and all of MRFRS’s lifesaving programs.
MRFRS’s most recent e-newsletter focused on pet retention, the importance of keeping cats and their caregivers together. Why is pet retention so important? You can find out in our most recent “Mews”letter: https://conta.cc/3JYWws7

If you’ve ever wondered why supporting the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society's spay/neuter programs is so important, Papaya’s story might just convince you. This sweet girl is one of over 90 cats rescued from a hoarding situation this past Tuesday.
MRFRS has taken in 15 of these frightened cats who are suffering from multiple medical conditions including eye and dental issues. After their full veterinary screening is done, substantial medical treatment including spay/neuter surgeries will be required at a cost of thousands of dollars. Without accessible low-cost spay/neuter services to stop feline overpopulation, cats like Papaya suffer. Help MRFRS protect other cats like Papaya and break the cycle of suffering.
Please make a gift to support MRFRS’s spay/neuter programs today: www.mrfrs.org/raisingmypaw
The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society is grateful to have received a grant from Athletes For Animals, which was used to help spay/neuter cats ready for adoption at the shelter.
With these funds, MRFRS was able to make sure these cats started off on the right “paw” in their new homes! Thank you Athletes for Animals!
Every cat owner wants to spend many years with their furry friend and one simple way to increase your cat’s longevity is spay/neuter!

We recently got this sweet update from Marmalade’s adopter and we could not resist sharing the photos! Marmalade came to the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society in 2018 a scared, FeLV+ stray and look at her now!
Her adopter says, “Marmalade is doing wonderful!! She goes to my local vet every 6 months and has continued to be in great health and living her best life … It took her a good 4-5 months to get comfortable and less shy, but since she has been the best snuggler and follows me everywhere!” ❤️
Over the last 30 years, the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society has found loving homes for almost 24,000 cats – a remarkable achievement, right? However, in only six years, one unspayed cat, her mate and their unaltered offspring would produce 2.5X that many cats!
The numbers are obvious - there will simply never be enough safe homes for all the kittens and cats that can reproduce in just a few years. Without MRFRS’s ongoing work to keep the cat population in check through the Catmobile and spay/neuter clinics, there would be tens of thousands of cats without homes… or euthanized.

Still looking for love? Mel is too! We posted this handsome 1-year-old boy a couple of weeks ago on our main Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society page and he is really hoping his special someone is out there waiting to meet him. He is shy, but his heart is just as big and beautiful as a more outgoing cat.
Mel is interested in people; he'll sniff your hand when you reach up to say hello and will purr and blink slowly at you if you speak sweetly to him. He has recently started allowing his foster parent to pat him - with a bit of patience and time, he may just decide it'd be nice to have his ears scratched.
He needs someone special to give him the loving home he deserves. ❤ You can read more about Mel at mrfrs.org/meet-the-cats.
Reasons why cats are the best Valentines:
✔️ Great cuddlers
✔️ Funny
✔️ Always there for you 💗
Happy Valentines Day to all our friends out there, two- and four-legged! This cute pair is Luna (f.k.a. Minnie) and Kaya (f.k.a. Della), sisters who were recently adopted together and are loving their new home and family.
If you have a Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society alum at home or a kitty that was spayed or neutered on our Catmobile, drop a photo in the comments, we’d love to say hello! ⬇️

Happy Tail alert! 😻 We posted about Kars a few months ago on our main Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society page - Kars was brought to MRFRS when his owner could no longer care for him. He did well in his foster home but after time, started to get depressed as he really wanted a home to call his own. Easily scared, it took time (months!) and patience to find Kars a quiet home he could thrive in.
His adopter said recently, “Things are going absolutely wonderfully with Kars! He goes by Rigatoni now and is an absolute dream! I'm not kidding - I've had to pinch myself a few times to believe our luck!”
We're so happy for you Kars! Thanks to all of the adopters out there who take a chance on the more timid, fearful kitties! They are so worth it 💙
Without the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society's ongoing work to keep the cat population in check through our Catmobile and spay/neuter clinics, there would be too many cats without homes, trying to survive outside in the cold, facing danger and disease - or even worse, being euthanized.
By being a CATalyst and making a donation today, you are making it possible for MRFRS to continue our important spay/neuter work in 2022. Donate now at www.mrfrs.org/raisingmypaw.
Have you ever wondered just why spay/neuter is so important?
The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society has created a helpful video to share how spay/neuter helps cats live longer, healthier lives. 💙
